The dr called me today with my results and he did say my sugar was high (my

BS that morning was 165 and my HBA1C was 6.9. I asked if i needed to go on

medication and he said absolutely not...so that was good. He said i have

controlled diabetes and that he feels if i lose weight and change my eating

habits that it will probably go away. I was so relieved to hear that. I've

already cut out all refined sugars and watching my carbs and trying to lose

weight

(i've lost a few pounds so far). It was pretty good news b/c i was worried

how bad it was. My cholesterol was a little high and by BP is a little

high..but he feels losing weight will help all of that.

Thanks !

Yea, if i didn't know my BS was high already and just found out, i'd be

upset..but i knew for days that it was high and had let the dr know. I was

just

hoping it wasn't too bad and that i wouldn't need medication (i hate

medication...i have a bit of a fear of taking medications...i know it's weird)

and so

i was thankful that the dr seemed so positive and that i can control it with

diet. I knew i had to lose weight..but this was a huge wake up call..and

i'm up for the challenge. LOL.

Thanks for the advice. :)

While not extremely high, your numbers are a bit high - the steps you are

taking should take you in the right direction!

As an aside, I take garlic for cholesterol. and I also know that fenugreek

seeds are helpful for bg and for cholesterol.

Best of luck!

My last numbers (when I was " officially " diagnosed) were 152 FBS -- 7% A1c

-- 172 three month average and my doctor put me on 1000 mg of Metformin twice

daily. I wish that I had been able to try diet and weight loss for a while

longer.

Yea, i was happy that he is letting me try to get it in control with diet.

I asked him if i need medication and he said absolutely not...b/c i have

controlled diabetes. I am 30..so i'm not sure if that's why he's so confident

that me losing weight will make a difference...but i'm glad he's letting me try

b/c i really didn't want to be on medication ( i mean of course i would be

if i had to and i'm thankful it's there if i need it) but i would just rather

do this without it. Hopefully it'll get under control. I did have a blood

test a year and half ago and my A1C was 5.7 so this all happened between then

and now (and i did put on some weight).

Hi Barb,

I was on meds for about a year and I decided I wanted off them. My doctor

told me and I quote, " Eunice, I don't see it happening, I will probably have

to increase your meds. " In Dec, 2000, my A1c was 7.5. In January, 2001, my

doctor told me to cut my meds in half, then in February 2001, I stopped taking

them. In June of 2001, I went off blood pressure meds and I've been off for

diabetes and BP since 2001.

Just because you are on meds now does not mean you can't go off them with

your doctor's permission.

hugs
