Guest guest
I posted this in my LiveJournal and thought I would send this along to the CHARGE list as I tend to disappear quite a bit. So I haven't walked off the end of the earth! This is what I have been up to... Well I am feeling a bit sad today as the summer winds down and everyone is getting ready to go back to school or get back into the regular routine of work. I am not even that sad about starting school, just that the summer itself is almost over. It has been a great time! Started out great with my graduation and my sister visiting. Loved my two summer classes, Anthropology & Communications. Work has been a blast, even though my contract does not end until Sept. 22nd, one of my co-workers has quit for a better job and another ones contract ends next week. So it will just be myself and one other and she works out of the other campus. I just applied for two jobs so I can hopefully have something after my current contract ends. One job is for Peer Support and the other one is tutoring. I am hoping for the tutoring job more but have a feeling I will probably be hired on for Peer Support instead because I know all the people that work there already. Either way, it's experience and extra $$. The only trip I took this summer was to Edmonton and that was for business so really can't count that as anything but. At least I spent a couple hours in West Ed Mall and got to visit Second Cup--one of my favorite coffee places that have been disappearing in BC due to Blenz and Starbucks popularity. I pretty much spent most of my summer at home, but still had a really awesome summer. It is amazing how much fun you can have in your own backyard, especially when your backyard is Vancouver! Waterskiing, rock climbing, hiking on Bowen Island, day trip to Chilliwack and just hanging out in coffee shops and going to movies! Tomorrow, I will be saying goodbye to summer in style, going with three friends to the Pacific National Exhibition, an annual event and a Vancouver tradition. From riding on the ol' 1958 wooden roller coaster, scarfing down those famous mini-doughnuts, the PNE has long been the highlight of summer since I was a kid and had to drive 4 hours from my hometown of Kamloops to Vancouver to attend. Can't think of a better way to bid farewell to the summer of 2006! However when one door closes, another open opens. This semester looks to be a fun one. The next month is the final month of work and will be busy doing the final prep work for the Student Services Open house. I can't wait to see how it all turns out. My courses this semester sound interesting; Creative Writing--Intro to Film Writing, Communications--Practical Writing, Social Sciences--Behavior in Organizations & last but not least, Sports Sciences--Intro to Nutrition. The latter I think will be the most challenging as well as the most interesting. Two of the instructors have already emailed me and are completely gung-ho about accommodations, one instructor I know from a previous class, so no problem there and one has not gotten back to me yet. The only thing I don't like about my classes is the times for Tuesdays and Thursdays. I have class 2:30-4:20 and then 6:30-9:20. I am not sure I will stay at the college for that two hour break or go home. I hope I can motivate myself to just pack a meal and just study for two hours in the library. And what is with me and always having class Thursday nights! Like the ONE night I want to stay home and watch TV so I can see Survivor! This semester is very different from the last few as this time I am going in with friends at the college. My co-workers and I have all really connected and have been doing things outside of work. I think that is going to make a big difference. All my friends up to this point have been outside of my school life. What is even nicer is that two are within a block away which is really nice! I also put in my application for the Classr\ oom and Community Support Program. I finally took the plunge and did it! There was still some hesitation as I keep feeling I should be finishing my education not starting a new program! But I know I would love the program and REALLY want to do it! It works perfectly within my current career goals. I feel pretty confident that I will get in but will know for certain sometime in Oct. Well that is my life update! Have a great long weekend everyone!

Guest guest
Chantelle, your post made me smile--those two shows are what all the young people at my school watch and they are always happy that they don't have classes on that night, too! pam
