Hello everyone:

I was at my surgeon's yesterday and asked for my path report - I have

some questions...I know that I have Invasive ductal carcinoma - I had

the lumpectomy (twice) and one group nodes removed - the sentenial

node was positive - all others negative. I am ER Negative, Her-2

Negative, PR (strongly) Positive. How do these things affect

treatment or recovery? Good or Bad? (I see the rad and oncologist

next week.)

Also What is the Nottingham score/grade?

I had my second lumpectomy about 10 days ago. When I went in for a

check yesterday - it seems that I have another " cyst " possibly two

already...how is this possible? He told me not to worry I was

in " freak out " mode. He would check it in a week. Have any of

you'all developed a cyst right after surgery? I have never had any

cyst my whole life - now it seems they are popping up like spring

flowers. I am worried and thinking maybe I should just do (or should

have done) the mastectomy? Any thoughts?

I was diagnosed back in 1990 and they did not do the HER2 test. I have never

heard of the Nottingham score/grade. Try looking it up at www.webmd.com or try

googling it on www.google.com I will keep you in my prayers.

I guess, at this point, I'd wait to see what your surgeon says in a week after

the pathology report comes back. I had 2 lumps appear after my lumpectomy....

one was fluid, one was tumor. I think the surgeon thought the first one was

fluid build up from the lumpectomy (which it was) and didn't feel the second. It

was a PET scan that found it.

Your lumps could very well be fluid filled from surgery and in a week would go

down or need draining. In my case it seems the original tumor at only about 1.6

cm was actually only one of many that were connected. I did then have a

mastectomy and that is where they found the tumor to be 5 cm in total length,

but several smaller ones connected.

It's hard not to 'freak out' but try to take it a day at a time until all the

information is in, including your path report and your next trip to the surgeon.

At the point I was suppose to go in for another lumpectomy is when the surgeon

said to me he thought my best choice was a mastectomy. I never felt pressured to

do that or to do the original lumpectomy first..... he was always sure to let me

make the decision, but also let me know what he would recommend.

My thought is ...is why wouldn't a second " lump " have shown on the scan and

mamo? Would it grow that quickly? I found the nottingham score - it scores the

combined " grades " of the tumor. I have an overall of 9 combined- which as far

as I can tell - the worst on the scale. Also the grade which shows how fast a

tumor will grow is 1 2 or 3. Mine is a 3 " the fastest " - - - how fast is fast?

Did your other lumps show on the scan and mamo? Why couldn't they tell with you

that you had more than one and they were connected? Thanks.

that site...someone else asked a question about it and there was a very thorough

answer there. I was able to follow my path report word for word based on their

info.

I haven't had surgery yet (scheduled for the 20th), but I have

completed 8 cycles of chemo.

After chemo, we could feel a new lump, plus the MRI picked up

something too. I also, went into panic mode and couldn't understand

how this could be.

Turned out they were both enlarged benign lymph nodes. They

'suddenly' appeared because my body was trying to rid itself

of all the dead cells from chemo.

I hope that you will hear similar good news!

I don't have an answer for that, but it happens all the time. That is why it is

so important that we listen to our bodies. My breast just said ouch when I laid

on my right side, like a pulling. pinched feeling. My cancer was aggressive, so

it can grow fast, but hopefully not that fast or they would have not had time

between the mastectomy and the chemo to get rid of the stray cells. At this

point, I hope they are all gone, but I really don't know. It's a waiting game. I

think mine was a grade 3 as well. And only the one lump showed on the mamo.

Until they were able to examine my breast after mastectomy, they were not sure

if there were more tumors there. But that's when they found them. I at times

wondered if I should have required an MRI after the first biopsy. But I didn't

know I could, didn't want to wait, wanted the lump out asap.

It's always possible that the other tumors didn't show up until the first one

was out only because the first one was in the way, similar to why the fluid

filled one kind of hid the tumor the second time.

There is no exact way to detect or treat breast cancer. Again probably because

each person is different in how they develop cancer and how they react to

treatment. We just have to do what is best for us.

I need to settle myself down a bit, I think. When I first found all of this

out I was walking around like its no big deal...I'll just go to the doctor and

he will fix me! The more I am exposed to the facts the more anxious I get. I

see the Oncologist next week to see about when treatment will start and what it

will be. I am sure she will answer alot of my questions. I just was floored

when he told me I had another cyst - maybe two. I had two surgeries in three

weeks time and 10 days after that he is talking about having to cut another one

out! What kind of crap is that?? I will be patient though and think POSITIVE.
