Guest guest
Anyone has a child with frequent ear infections, even with tubes? has one and he has had more of them now than before he had tubes. My thinking is that the hearing aids make his ears more susceptible because air doesn't circulate in and this makes it an easier target for infection. I am diligent about wearing ear plugs in the water and cleaning his ear molds and still he gets infections! , mom of Ben(5) & (2,CHARGE)
Guest guest
We found that tubes only made things worse for . Never knew why. The doctor finally removed the tubes and we ran a 2 week course of antibiotics and went in daily to have the " gunk " suctioned out. Guest guest
You are right, it is the molds. I guess thats why baha's are such a good thing. lol. I hate it when docs suggest just not wearing the hearing aids. I have to wear them. I cant function without them. My ears have all night to air out and i still get infections. sorry this wasnt too much help Chantelle -- My spelling's kinda wobbly. Guest guest
We used to with Kennedy - AWFUL! She ended up losing 50dB more hearing because of the recurrent infections. We switched to a BAHA hearing aid (got the molds out of her ears) and ZERO infections since the aids came out of the ears. > > Anyone has a child with frequent ear infections, even with tubes? > has one and he has had more of them now than before he had tubes. Guest guest
spent almost all her first 20 years or so with infection after infection; despite vigorous medical treatment both here and in Boston, she nevertheless lost all hearing. One drug resistent infection went on for months and cleared only AFTER a set of tubes was removed. Apparently the bacteria flousished at the site of the tubes. I suggest doing what you're already doing to keep water from the ears and to see a dr. when you first suspect an infection. Unfortunately, could somehow feel one sometimes 1-2 weeks before it could be seen on examination. It helped a lot when she was at Perkins and people finally saw the correlation between behavior and her pain since she could just stop in medical services any time. We all learned after awhile that even a slight pinkness would cause her great problems. I know this isn't a cheery post! Martha
Guest guest
All of my children had recurring ear infections that were eliminated with tubes.... gets ear infections periodically with her tubes, but she also has sinus problems and a unique charge anatomy. Now when starts any " behaviors " I get her to the pediatrician for treatment. The drops, Ciprodex, keep her from requiring oral antibiotics. Good luck! Ear infections are awful!!!!!!! Guest guest
I have tubes put into both of my ears, my right one had to be re-tubed, cause it fell out at 4 years old. I started wearing the small " ancient " in the ear hearing aid at 3, and switched to the behind the ear hearing aid at 5, and ever since has gotten an ear infection practically every two weeks. As I grew, I learned how to diminish the infections, but I still do get them alot. I had specially made ear molds from the person who makes my molds, and I wear them whenever I'm in the shower, or anywhere near water, when I know I don't need to wear my aids, I don't wear them. And I pay attention to what my ears are telling me, if my canel gets moist, I clean it with a q-tip, and if it has yukie stuff on it, then I'm at the beginning of an ear infection, also when I suddenly feel dizzy, or it feels like I'm listening through a tunnel, then I know I have an ear infection. There are no known permanent cures for ear infections, except for what both Chantelle, and pointed out - A BAHA does wonders for the ear, and it helps the ear stop getting inflamed, and infected all the time. Guest guest
, Vinny seems to have an ear infection in his left ear every few weeks. It is so frustrating! I think his mold is currently too long (which I speculate is adding to if not causing the problem), so I trimmed it down until he gets fitted with new molds. Guest guest
Krista, I really appreciate your post about infections - only wish we'd had your words of experience several years ago for our . Please, as this list continues with more parents of younger kids, remember to tell them what you know. I think it could save much heart ache.
