Guest guest
Well, I guess I'm not meant to donate ANYTHING!! My platelets are so low that I don't have enough left for ME, let alone have enough to share with someone else. ------------------------------------------------ Terry Mayers 5DollarHosting.com® http://www.5dollarhosting.com (877)-838-HOST / .... because it shouldn't cost a fortune to make a fortune! ® Re: Donating Blood > My doctor said no. No to blood donation and no to plasma donation. Just can't re-establish good levels if you do. levels of Iron and Protien. *sigh*<<< My doctor said no to red blood and plasma, too, but said that platelet donations would be okay. Because the loss of red blood cells and plasma is extremely minimal when they harvest the platelets, there is no impact on the iron and protein. So you might want to ask about platelet donation if you are interested. Sheri In Sunny Florida

Hey sis, If it makes you feel any better, I am in the same boat.. low hemoglobin, low hematocrit, low iron and low platelets.. and increased bleeding times.. Guest guest
Yup Terry.....no to plasma. It takes away the protein. I asked cuz I used to donate 2x a week prior to sx. He said in the future MAYBE onec or twice a year would be ok.....but then it would depend on my levels. I just said, " Ok. I will not do this anymore then. I want to be healthy NOT get sick from donations! " He smiled and said good choice! Guest guest
Well, I'm glad that I was paying attention to this thread, I never knew about the plasma depleting the protein. As a distal, I especially don't need something else fighting for the protein I manage to absorb! I agree about not making ourselves sick from donating. I'm still trying to get out of the hole I'm in after donating 1 1/2 years ago (right after 9/11). Donating blood is a wonderful thing to do, but not at our own expense. Anyway, thanks for the info. ------------------------------------------------ Terry Mayers 5DollarHosting.com® http://www.5dollarhosting.com (877)-838-HOST / .... because it shouldn't cost a fortune to make a fortune! ® Re: Donating Blood Yup Terry.....no to plasma. My son had leukemia and needed platelets almost every day for eight months. People who are undergoing chemotherapy need lots of platelets to keep them from bleeding to death. Even more unfortunate, didn't make it although he gave it a brave and valiant try. So now my DH and I donate every two weeks in his honor - have for over 4 years now except for the first 3 months after surgery.
