Yep. Not wanting to go to sleep cuz I'm not sure I'll wake up. It's early yet ... the adjustment will come. We all understand your fear and panic and anxiety. For nervous types (I am one of them sometimes), it can be especially debilitating. You are among friends who understand here ... share whenever you're scared and we'll reassure you till you feel better. Then years down the road it might get terrifying again, like it has for me ... and the support will still be here. For this a-fib beast, you ARE " normal " here ... But I'm very careful with it as it is HIGHLY addictive. It's actually an epilepsy drug that they discovered also calmed the panic part of the brain so it's been approved for that use for years now. Just be careful with it. I still have to use it occasionally if I haven't slept in a long time as I tend to wake up in panic attacks (not from a-fib ... way before a-fib ... long boring story). And I'm still careful with it. I don't want to get addicted to anything, and a physical addiction is as bad as an emotional one. But it DOES work, and nothing else did and I'd tried everything. Good luck with it ... carefully! Toni CA
Guest guest
I was wondering if you guys have extreme anxiety? I have always been a slightly nervous person I suppose, but it seems since my first and so far only afib episode I find myself so filled with anxiety. I guess just the fear of the unknown and uncontrolable beast that is afib. I have flutters here and there a couple times a day and I become obsesses and freaked out thinking that I am gonna have an afib episode. Last night as I was falling asleep I started dosing off and was woken by a little flutter or skipped beat and then I had trouble sleeping because I was so worried even though when I took my pulse it was normal and not all over the place and the rate was not racing or anything. Just wondering if the anxiety is something that is common with afib. Thanks and hope everyone is well! Rob
Guest guest
Hi Rob, I have, it seems, extreme anxiety, and I do feel it contributes to heart rthym problems. The more you worry, the more it does not beat right! I take a mild sedative at night, it does help. Laurel Anxiety I was wondering if you guys have extreme anxiety? Guest guest
Rob: Anxiety is part of the " fib " thing. At least it is for me. I suffered anxiety attacks about 10 years before I was diagnosed with afib. I find that consistent daily exercise of some kind helps and watching the diet. I try to watch the junk food and high sugar foods, also salty stuff is not very good for you. I am not saying I don't eat some " bad " stuff but I watch the amounts and frequency. I truly believe this " fib " thing is very individual and every body has to find their own path for their healing. Listen to your body and how it reacts to different things and learn from it. It is not over night but an everyday process of learning about ourselves. God Bless.... Sherry --------- Anxiety I was wondering if you guys have extreme anxiety? Guest guest
Gee, me, too. And now I'm wondering whether anxiety leads to afib. Re: Anxiety Rob: Anxiety is part of the " fib " thing. Guest guest
> > Gee, me, too. And now I'm wondering whether anxiety leads to afib. Count me in as a believer that the two are connected. I have had some sort of anxiety/panic on and off for 40 years, more off than on. I have been on and off several benzo's over those years but Klonopin was and is far and away the best for me. Never been addicted and never had to keep increasing my dosage. I know that the UK is dead set against benzo's, preferring the SSRI's instead, but I'd much rather stay with myself rahter than put some distance between me and the world. In the middle of the night, between 2:00 AM and 3:00 AM when things get tough and panic, anxiety and afib settle in for the balance of the night, a 0.25 mg of Klonopin does the trick. IMHO, when your body no longer needs the Klonopin it will let you know by the effect the drug has on you and tapering off will come pretty naturally. I have tried Ambien, etc., but they don't really do the job. For minor situations, theanine and holy basil, both OTC, work pretty well for me. When the panic/anxiety hits, no matter what the cause (including afib), it has to be dealt with. If it can be handle by CBT or OTC stuff, fine, but if not, it's time for the stuff that I know will work. Gordon
Guest guest
Rob Just to let you know I have had AF for six years. You are more aware of it when lying down which is natural and to be expected especially at night when you are trying to get to sleep.I am not a doctor ,and I have been in constant AF for the last 13 months, but anxiety and AF can be as simple as an over active Thyroid gland. When your Thyroid over produces it will speed up your metabolic rate ,make you anxious and let your ticker do the one two .Only a thought. Guest guest
I decided to break one in half and take it last night an hour before I went to bed and have to say that was the best night of sleep I have had in quite some time. I woke a few times, but was relaxed and went right back to sleep. indiaink99@... wrote: Klonopin is a miracle drug for me (I used to have panic attacks).
