I Know it must be hard but try to remember to just be proud of yourself for all you have accomplished. The strength inside of all CHARGERS is so incredible and awesome. My g tube attracts a lot of attention from the kids at the Boys and Girls Club. I think it was my trache, not the button, that scared people away, lol lol lol lol lol If you don't know what that is like, imagine a vacuumm cleaner going on suddenly, then turning off, then on again over and over next to you, lol There is one little kid who thinks that my voice is funny. Sure, he doesn't understand what I am saying. But you know what? Right now there is a 99% probability that all my words will be understood. Oh, if I talk too fast at the CHARGE conference, let me know. Back then CHARGE was a peer repelant. Now it is a.........magnet? Dunno. lol lol lol It attracts little kids, but it teens sympathize a little when they first meet me. Afterwards they see it normal and ignore the CHARGE part. I guess in my case it is hidden that well. Well, I digress. Basically you ignore that person. I did it with that kid. Ignored him. Try not to let that kid hurt your feelings. If it is a little kid, understand that they don't know better. Back then I used to stare at people in wheelchairs or missing limbs. Now I don't do that anymore cuz I grew up. If I am looking directly at a CHARGEr........it could be love if it is a girl. A guy.........there is something on his face, lol lol Well, gotta go. My food is ready. See ya! However if you take a step back, they did not sound like they were making fun of you. It sounds more like they were being children without rules of social politeness. It is their way of saying " you're different, why? " A kind response can be the difference between their acceptance of differences and their leaning towards teasing. If they get a rise, they may try it again but if they get a kind explanation, they may see you as kind. My daughter is often stared at. I continue to believe that she is fitting in more, but then some kid stares! I want to yell, " Stop staring!!!!! " but then I'd hope they would just ask so I could explain. Then maybe they will realize they were being rude. Sometimes kids just don't know better and they need the kindness of others to point them in the right direction. Kids don't understand how to be decreet.( I'm still teaching my 9 and 8 yr olds) I'm sure when he is older he will know, not to just look at the outa beaty of some one but the inside beauty as well. I have seen sooo much love and understanding from all the CHARGERS here on the list. More than some people i know that aren't as unique as you guys. If he was a young child I have learned they say things because they don't know not too, I have a friend who is over weight and my oldest asked when he was younger why she was so big and we were so skinny. Its hard and I hope you don't take it to heart to much.
