Guest guest
Hi Kat--- just sending again to make sure you got my thoughts... I saw your acknowledgment and responses to Lynn and Topper but figured you must have missed mine. Thinking of you, Sue Hi there, Just a thought since I get many of your symptoms-have you had your Hormones checked, including Progesterone, Testosterone, Estrogen and CORTISOL along with DHEA? Kinda sounds to me lke it’s hormones – especially if symptoms come and go — but this is just my humble opinion and observation. I am hypo and have Hashis but feel that is treated properly now but other symptoms still persist... Sue I called my GP this morning to book an appointment for my boys for there wellness check ups..hard to believe my baby's are going to be 9 soon. I am so happy cause the regular receptionist is back..she has been on Maternity leave for the last year. So I got her to pull my file and tell me if the ENDO sent the biopsy report to the GP as the ENDO never did do any follow up with me. Now I do not have any nodules so the ENDO did three biopsies on the thyroid itself.. benign although Cancer was not my worry..but no lymphocyte infiltration meaning I do not have Hashimoto's. My TPO count in October last year was 34 ( 0-35) now TPO is considered a measurement of inflammation as well as Hashimoto's..except in Hashimoto's TPO is seen in the 100's so much higher. My understanding is that a biopsy is the only way to actually confirm Hashimoto's and the biopsy says I do not have Hashimoto's. So where I am at.. Goiter..diffuse, large. TRAB 5 ( <5 neg,>15 positive) although TSI is more accurate it is not available for labatory testing. TPO 34 ( 0-35) Hashimoto's ruled out by biopsy. TSH 0.92..this bugs me..regardless how I feel or what my Free's do it has always been 0.92. Free T4..slowly climbing 17, 18, 19..( range 9-20) Free T3..do not have numbers, not tested as regular but tested..high normal end of the range.. Total cholesterol 1.5 ( 2-4.5) Fasting Glucose 3.8, 4.3 ( 4-7) Non reactive hypogylcemia.. Other tests include complete WCB, RBC etc..all well within normal ranges except WCB which is a little high but only the inflammation markers. Iodine levels..although ENDO ordered them , no labs run the tests, it is considered obsolete and they have not run them for over 10 years ( government funded labs, no private labs available due to government regulations). Symptoms Large diffuse goiter, sometimes causes sharp pains in the neck. No moons on nails except small ones on the thumbs, adverse reactions to excessive iodine. Itchy, some times with rash, sometimes without, sort of comes and goes. Irregular very short menstrual cycles. Hair and nails grow like crazy but weaker not as healthy. Summer is going to suck as I have to shave every day it grows so quick.. Sweats, shakes, resting pulse is over 100, mental function is all over the place, forgetting things..jumping at 20 things at once and not finnishing the first thing. Irritated more often..bored..need stimulation. Muscles in upper thighs and shoulders are weak but only if I do stairs or lift things above my head. Feel like I could run a marathon some days but the inside energy is higher than the physical energy. Hungry, hungry hungry and this is where my iritation levels come in..if I need to eat. Other health problems. Allergies, allergies, allergies.. no food allergies.. Sulpha, Sulphites, pennicillin, Biaxin, Erythomycin, Codiene, ASA, PTU, yellow food dye, chlorine, MSG , perfume( floral, but not real flowers),sayacilic acid..molds. Medications B-complex although I have switched to Redoxon-B as it is an effervescent tablet as big pills have become harder to swallow. Reactine as needed for allergies, Benadryl as needed for allergies.. I do carry an EPI-PEN but have not had to use it as the combination Benadryl, Reactine together seem to bring the swelling down and have only received the shots at the clinic. Personal info.. 36,,female..not perimenipausal. 5'6 " ..135 lbs..medium build..wieght was 113 for the longest time and it took 4 years of increasing calories, Flu shots etc to get it up to 135lbs. Can not remember the last time I got a cold or Flu but with the Flu I can drop wieght instantly. Diet.. I am on the See food diet..I see food I eat it..try very hard to stay away from processed due to allergies btu some days I think all I do do is eat. Physical exercise.. no set type program or gym..I have 3 boys I help with sports with, ride scooters, bikes etc.. walk to and from school, housework, no car so I walk everywhere..work is on my feet and wearing a pedometer figured averaged about 3 1/2 kms at work during an 8 hour shift. This is all I can think of...figured I would give too much info so if any one has any ideas?? I know my GP will run what ever test I ask and will redo the basics.. but for now I am subclincal hyper with a diffuse goiter of no known origin or cause who tends to swing back and forth between hyper and normal.. Guest guest
Hi Kat -- Hormones out of whack and over- or under-producing adrenals can cause many of the symptoms you describe — I have a lot of them myself But I don’t have them 24/7 — they fluctuate as do our hormone levels and adrenals... That’s what got me thinking yours could be hormonal/adrenal in addition to the thyroid. Your high resting pulse rate does speak towards hyperthyroidism – as with the high caloric intake and no weight gain. What DO your doctors say? Have you posted your TSH, T3f and T4F numbers? Sue > Hi there, > > Just a thought since I get many of your symptoms-have you had your Hormones > checked, including Progesterone, Testosterone, Estrogen and CORTISOL along > with DHEA? > Kinda sounds to me lke it’s hormones – especially if symptoms come and go — > but this is just my humble opinion and observation. I have not had the cortisol or DHEA test done.. Unfortunately I can find a lot of info regarding low thyroid/low adrenals or stressed adrenals I have not found much info regarding hyperthyroid and adrenals.a little on hyper adrenals as far as conditions go in extreme cases but nothing at the inbetween levels. If yo uhave any info or links that direction I would love to check them out. Kats3boys
Guest guest
Hi Sue, I know where your coming from when saying that I was told last Thusday that I may have Cushings Syndrome and that has alot to do with pituatary and adrenal glands I am presently just waiting on test results. I had a cortisol test and a creatine test and a 24 hour urine collections test he also redid my thyroid panel becuase he says even though my numbers for TSH are not all that bad my T4 is really to high for his liking right now and so he redid my thyroid panel and now I get to play wait and see. I have in the mean time reading profusely about Cushings Syndrome. I really don't think I want it it don't sound like fun at all but neither does thyroid he told me i am a classic case of Cushings with all the symtoms but I also have all the hypo thyroid symptoms so he was checking everything over to sort things out. So I am in limbo till at least Tuesday or Wednesday of next week and you know how waiting can feel like an eternity. Guest guest
Tina, Is Cushings another of the Autoimmune diseases? I have learned that if a person has one autoimmune disease (like hashimotos, graves, diabetes, some types of arthritis, lupus, etc) - OR - if any autoimmune diseases run in the family - then the person is more likely to have that disease or any other autoimmune disease. I hope I said that so it makes sense. For instance, my diabetic friend's doctor just ran a bunch of tests to rule out lupus and arthritis - but my friend FORGOT to tell him that his father had both hypothyroidism and diabetes and that other family relatives had other autoimmune diseases. Of course, symptoms overlap and immitate other diseases between all these things. Since your still not being treated for your thyroid problems, I'm wondering if their Cushings thought might need more research - or if they treated you, would the Cushings-like symptoms just go away? Makes you wonder, doesn't it? By the way - glad you got to smile and laugh today. It really is the best medicine of all - not just a folk tale - it really does release good stuff in your body. So watch funny movies, or grab a video tape of a good comedian and laugh as much as you can. It worked for Norman Cousins that they eventually had him found a mind-body segment at the UCLA (I Think it was UCLA) medical complex. Laughing is good! -Lynn > Hi Kat -- > > Hormones out of whack and over- or under-producing adrenals can cause many of the symptoms you describe — I have a lot of them myself > But I don't have them 24/7 — they fluctuate as do our hormone levels and adrenals... TSH 0.92 Free T4 19 (9-20) I know 20 is top end bottom range not sure of..just wrote them down and was more concerned wit the high end. My Free T3 was also at the high end of normal.. My GP, Endo and allergist all think it si my thyroid but none of them know why.. Kats3boys
Guest guest
Lynn, To tell you the truth I am not real sure of how it contects to thyroid but if I do remember correctly it is somehow tied to an autoimmune cause basically what it has to do with is your pituatary and your adrenals not fuctioning right. I also already have been diagnosed hashi but the family dr left it at that told me there was nothing he could do till m thyroid died . Thank God I found Topper and and this site.I fought like I have said before for months till I finally threatened to turn my Dr into the AMA to get my refferal to an real Endo.So I am starting all over again with the testing for this Endo cause he wants his own studies and blood work done his way. He is suppose to be as I recently found out one of the best Doctors in the State of PA alot of other dotors rely on his knowledge so i think I have hit the jack pot or so I hope. I also have severe arthritis in my spine and degenerative joint disease in my lumbar spine and left knee. That is true if it is running in the family you typically do get it.You said it just fine I understood completely what you were saying Your right it does need to be thought over that is why he already redid the thyroid tests and also the cortisol blood test and the cortisol Urine test , he already told me if he finds what he is thinking I will need to do someorther test which has totally left my mind right now but it start with a D it was a dexa something anyway I would take some pill for 4 days and each day a higher dose till the 4th day then they do the test.Oh I get so upset with myself when i forget like that. Your right there to it does make you wonder, makes you stop and think alot when dealing with this disease cause I also know I may be going through memopause cause I had a hysterectomy 3 years ago this past Feb. But what really directed him to Cushings was my purplish stretch marks and the fact that I have gained all my weight in a very short period of time and it is all around my midsection not on my arms or my legs or anywhere else just my mid section and I have scars from misquito bites from last yearthose are the thing that tweaked his curiousity in maybe it is Cushings Syndrome but he like I said didn't like my Free T4 for his liking he said it was way to high. So here if they don't call me by Wednesday I will be on the phone they said Tuesday but I will give them the benefit of the doubt being they are a very very busy office and i will start calling Wednesday after lunch. Not impatient just need to know....LOL and yes I did get a good chuckle and I agree laughter is the best medicine if only I could convey that to my mother. Guest guest
Oh Tina - congrats on getting to see a new doc! I must have missed that news while I was gone. It sounds like you have a good handle on what is going on. I'll keep cheering for you. It is so hard for me too to get tough with anyone - but like you I'm learning that I have to keep forcing the docs to look. I think you'll do great.
