It looks like it's yet another urinary tract infection. I've been having chronic problems off and on for the last 4 years or so. I've gone through a 6 month long course of antibiotics two times in the last 3 years to try to keep them away. ( The doctor is culturing it this time to see if it's something different from what was causing the problems about 3 years ago, which was the last time he cultured my urine. I'm tired of this crap. It's not helped by all the junk going on at work right now and the stress of the last 8 months with Mom getting sick and passing. My life has got to get better soon. Last year was the pits, so this year has got to be better. Guest guest
Kathy - Up until very recently I suffered with the same thing, chronic urinary tract infections plus bacterial vaginosis, group b strep, and who knows what. Guest guest
Kathy, Have you ever tried drinking cranberry juice daily to keep from getting a urinary tract infection? Something about the cranberry juice keeps the bacteria from being able to gain hold. I wouldn't advocate drinking a gallon a day, but maybe a regular drinking glass a day. You might be able to google cranberry juice and urinary health for more info. Beware that some people with some types of kidney stones aren't supposed to have too much cranberry juice. Wouldn't hurt to ask your doc. It worked for my ex-boyfriend's sister - and she had infections BAD for years before that. Guest guest
Kathy, This follows up on my last message, about cranberry juice. It's an excellent full disclosure article on both medical studies and anecdotal info. http://www.wholehealthmd.com/refshelf/substances_view/0,1525,10019,00.html ( Please note, I may have been wrong about cranberry being bad for people with kidney stones. ) Hope this helps, -Lynn

Levaquin and that's it. I took that last month too. Any suggestions? I will also only buy the 100% juice types and not the juice coctail drinks because of the HFCS they seem to want to put into EVERYTHING. I can tolerate cranberry juice if I can mix it half with grape or apple juice and I even have a bottle of cranberry juice on top of my fridge. I just don't like the stuff straight. I'll have to buy some apple or grape juice when I get paid next week. I can handle that part. ) I guess I'm going to stock up on cranberry juice next week too. Guest guest
Levaquin never worked for me!! I was on it 3 or 4 times!!!!!! I have been on so much stuff for the uti and the vaginal stuff I don't know what finally worked. I am still on a very low dosage of antibiotic for the uti, just 100 mgs daily. I would like to try to stop taking it but I am scared. I am leaving on a cruise next Saturday and I think after I return I will try to discontinue it and see what happens. Are you having any vaginal problems, or just urinary? Also, just this week I went and got some cranberry tablets from the health food store, and am taking 2000 mg a day, as a preventative measure. I think maybe you should try a different med. Honestly, I was on levaquin 3 or 4 times, and finally I said prescribe something else. I even had bladder surgery because I had some incontinence, so I was hoping that would help. I went into surgery with a uti, and post op, I still had an uti. I understand your frustration. My surgery was in August, and I have probably only been infection free for a few months. Guest guest
I also have done this, but got the unsweetened. It taste awful, but it's worth a try for preventative. Or get the tablets. But, I think I read somewhere where you need 2000mg for chronic urinary problems, that is what I am taking now. Guest guest
Have you kicked up your vitamin C intake? Try taking 125 mcg every two or three hours all day long... no more than that at a time.. and about that far apart... it kicks up how the body cleanses the blood.... It might help... it's worked for me on MANY maladies... and it can't hurt.. as long as you don't take too much at one time... Vitamin C is water soluble.. it's passed out of the body in the urine, so it won't accumulate and you won't OD on it.. but taking too much at one time can cause stomach upset.. .and the body can't handle too much at once anyway, you just pee it out.. the trick is to take it frequently.... For a bad infection I kick it up a notch and drink peppermint tea.... suck down as much as I can hold... These two, in combination, have been our home cure since I was a week tyke... and a few years after my mom died I ran across an article describing how the combo of vitamin C and peppermint tea actually work in unison to fight infections. Guest guest
there is a brand in the natural food section of the grocery store that is carbonated cranberry juice.. I used to have problem with high acid stuff after the gall bladder removal but I can drink that. It doesn't taste bitter, just sweet and oh so yummi. Best of all, no high fructose corn syrup : ).
