This last major bout of hives started with incredible chest pains, my teeth and ears ached with it also. When the pain subsided, after a couple of hours I felt those tell tale " prinkles " as I call them, (a cross between a prickle and tingle) on my leg and a few hours later I was covered. A couple of things happened the day before that I feel may have started it. 1. My husband made a dynamite batch of chili, with lots of processed tomatoes. 2. At work a product was used that had a really strong chemical odor that made me feel very strange at the time. So it may have been a combination of inhaling the chemical smell combined with the food. I have had bouts of hives before after doing a lot of painting with an aersol paint. I now think the inhalation could have started that. Also once before after a back injury with severe pain. I thought that just the stress of the pain itself could have started it? Until I joined this list I had no idea of internal hives. I have learned so much. I thank you all for the continued support. Some I think are directly because of digestive tract hives, others because of acid reflux (which I think is because of the hives, too). There is a definite correlation between how badly I'm hiving and how severe the pain is. During shocking, I also get chest pains, but I can also tell my heart is racing and my b/p has dropped. I've also found prednisone doesn't help and may even contribute to the pain. My guess in your situation, since the pain is most noticable when you lay down, is acid reflux. Are you taking any H2 antihistamines (tagamet, zantac)? They do help with the reflux, and also calm the hives throughout the digestive tract. By the way she's been doing pretty good lately, only minor problems for the most part. Has an appt May 22 with her doc at U of Iowa. Will decrease her medrol again (or stop?). Now that the thyroid condition is being treated I have no more chest pain. Guest guest Posted May 6, 2001 Report Share Posted May 6, 2001 My doctor precribed an albuterol inhaler and I helps some of the time with the pain. Sometimes I just have to let it pass. The Prilosec took it away but my doctor only wrote a prescription for two months. I have to have that throat scope done to get more. Before doing that, I wanted to see what the hive doctor says. I will see him for the first time in a few weeks. I never connected this with hives before. Do you know if the Allegra can be combined with Zantac?
