They caused hair loss, nauseau, tiredness, headaches, loss of taste, problems sleeping and a few other things I can't think of right now - in me anyway. O yeah - I just wrote about the peeling hand palms and feet. The thing about it, though, is that not everyone gets the same thing. I'm amazed when I read that someone didn't have a hard time with the chemo. One of the things that was hardest for me is that it affected the depression I already had. This was one of the main reasons that I didn't go for the 2 extra the onc recommended when I had finished the first course we had discussed. If I had to go through chemo again, would I? Yes. But there would have to be a really good reason for it. Please don't let me scare you. Like I said, it went easy for some of the women in this group - it could for you too. Especially since you are having the drugs separately. Bad news first,,,,I have to have cemo,radition, and hormonal treatments.The good news is cemo I only have to do 8 rounds,,,,1 every 2 weeks onAdriamycin and a shot of something the next day after each.then go to cytoxan and no shot the next day on it. It is also every 2 weeks.The radiation I don't know about yet, My oncon said we would dicuss that when we are done with the cemo.I start my cemo June 20th.anyone out there that has had these drugs let me know how they affected you and what I might can do to help prevent side effects form them. Guest guest Posted June 1, 2006 Report Share Posted June 1, 2006 Steph, my symptoms on AC were similar to 's. I had the AC together every 2 weeks, so at least it was over in 2 months. I also had the Neulasta shot (to boost the white blood cell count) the day after each treatment. I also ended up needing Procrit (sp?) shots at each treatment to boost my red blood cell counts. It's no picnic, but it's doable. Just drink alot before, during, and after chemo (especially during Cytoxan which can damage the kidney). Use Biotene mouthwash and toothpaste to prevent dry mouth and cold sores. Also suck on ice during the Adriamycin treatments to prevent mouth sores. , I didn't have peeling to the extent you did, but I noticed my skin was really dry and flaky, especially my feet. - Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

The tumor they removed is about 1.5 big and they say I tested positive for Her2.. from what I understand it is a rare type of cancer.. they also found that removing the whole thing was a good idea. because there was alot of little specks of cancer all over the breast. I am going for a full body scan. all next week then on friday of next week I am having a Port cath in my chest to make it easier to get the chemo treatments. Oh goodness I don't know how I am going to do it... it has been hard dealing with children and hubby. I am doing well. I had the lumpectomy today. My surgeon and his staff are so awesome - this is my 8th surgery under general, so I've had some doozies for caretakers - but this center was wonderful. He took out a tennis-ball size blob of tissue with the calcifications in it. The calcifications were actually in a much smaller group, but deep within the breast, and I specifically asked him to err on the conservative side. I DON'T want to do any more surgeries! The worst part was the needle/wire placement before surgery (to mark where the calcifications were at, since the surgeon can't see them.) Even though they put a marker in when they did the biopsy from hell, they couldn't get the wire in the right spot. And, they had me in a chair, not on a table....so of course I passed out halfway through the 3 stabbings. Ewww....don't worry, I slid gracefully off the chair and onto the floor. ha ha. Also, they didn't put me all the way under - they gave me an amnesiac, lidocaine for the surgical site, and heavy sedation. They said I would be awake but not remember anything. It was an awesome blessing for me because my vascular system doesn't behave properly after general anesthesia, and it is usually hours before I can even sit up without my blood pressure bottoming out. In fact that was the funniest part of the surgery. When I walked into the surgical center, I got the same nurse who had me two years ago for the hernia surgery, and she remembered me! Because it took me 3 hours to get through stage 2 recovery from anesthesia and to be able to sit up. Ha ha. Poor woman. Best of all, I got to see my kids and read their bedtime stories to them. I was so happy. They both looked at my owie and seemed content with that. And my dh has been great taking care of me. I feel blessed! Now all I have to do is get through the father-in-law visit..... Guest guest Posted September 18, 2006 Report Share Posted September 18, 2006 Omg, how do some of you do it? I am already freaking out and meserible and I havent heard anything yet. I had my mammogram done today and my ultrasound. I asked a few questions completely aware that they can tell me anything at the moment. But what I found out is this: I went in for a large lump in my left breast. There was swelling, outter redness and sorness with it. I know I also have that Fibrocytic something...you know the cyst you get that are tender with your periods? Well anyway, doing the ultra sound I had many of those as usual. What I was told was this... that I have a couple solid masses in my RIGHT breast, but they cant be certain until they see a previous mammogram/ultrasound to see if they havent changed sense my last check up. But the LEFT breast ( the one I came in for), I was told had blood flow to it, and something about the edges of it? She (a doctor I spoke with after the techician) said that that is a concern. So, now I have the concern with the Left breast I came in for and now two areas on my Right breast. This is so much to deal with. I see the surgeon on Wednesday for more information.
