Guest guest
After I delivered my son, my placenta was sent to a hematologist to help determine why my child was so small. The determination was made that my umbilical cord had only two and not the normal three vessels. The docs.thought that this " might " have contributed to the baby's small size but would not say conclusively. Have any other you others had placenta problems? Guest guest
Some have some haven't.. a common problem causing IUGR (Intra uterine growth retardation) is placental insufficiency where there are blood clots blocking off some of the placenta, but even with this, from what the doctors told me, most babies are not born as small as most of ours, and it usually happens with ALL the pregnancies, not just the one. I had no problems with the placenta, and Darcy was 3lb 11 full term. Have any other you others had placenta problems? > Hi I had placental insufficiency also. Initially that is what the doctors thought was causing 's poor growth. I was sent for a dopler test and it was in reverse which means that the placental blood flow was not adequate to nourish (in fact it was terrible!) My placenta was sent away for examination and the pathologist said that 1 cm of my placenta was dead and that this was sufficient to have caused 's poor growth. However I was at the hospital last week and my genetisist said that the placenta is also genetically linked (because I had asked how could it be that I had both placental insufficiency and a rare genetic problem). A lot of the members of this group seem to have had placental problems and some were wondering if there might be a link between placental insufficiency and rss. Guest guest
- Our geneticist asked us to find out about my placenta too. Unfortunately, for those of us whose children were not diagnosed at birth or for whom there were no questions raised about why they were so small at birth - the placentas are in the incinerator!!! I was bummed! I would have liked to have known!

Guest guest
Hi , Yes, the placenta was small with and we did have some umbilical cords issues, 's was about 8 inches long and around his neck when the C-section was preformed. My last memory, as they were putting me to sleep was my Dr.'s voice of saying " Oh Hell " . was born 3 and 1/2 pounds and 17 inches long.
