Guest guest
Hi Steph, Glad to hear you only have one more treatment. I too started chemo at 118, would loose ~4 lbs after each treatment, and gain it back in time to loose it at the next treatment. You may not want to hear this, but I ended up gaining it back plus 10 lbs! I'm not sure how much of this is due to menopause, where it's easier to gain wait it seems. take care,

Guest guest
Of course then the arimidex for 5 yrs. > I > think > my problem was I didn't have much meat on my bones to begin with and all these treatments have really wore me down. I started out weighing 118 and now weigh 97. But I am sure once I am done I will gain it back faster than when I lost it!!! lol > > OUr prayers are with you!!!! > Steph > Thanks for that : ) I tell the folks at church " All donations (prayers) are appreciated : ) I will not need the Arimidex (I went for the HER2 version instead) so I get to prolong the fun with Herceptin for the second 6 months (joy : ). I'm not as skinny as you are, but I'm 5'8 " and about 133 so I'll see if I can't get my hands on some of that glutamine. Today is chemo #1 (so I'll be finding out pretty quick what it's going to do to me : ) I got my port yesterday and I'm still trying to get all the betadine off (I am " yellow woman " at the moment). I can't get the dressing wet and soap and water with a washcloth did not work either (grrr). I have some 600 grit sandpaper here someplace, I wonder if that would do the trick (you know, a home grown derma-brasion : ). Off to check the garage... - Jen

Guest guest
Dear and Steph, I have heard the doctors tell the patients that the weight gain really is from extra eating. The extra eating is from the pills. Sometimes, I think the pills and the whole challenge creates stress that increase the eating. So much eating is from emotional instigation rather than true physical hunger these days. (That's why that cinnamon roll and chocolate pie look soooo good on the commercials, they want you to buy it!) So if the pills make you hungrier, you may need to work out some strategies to avoid increased food intake, if weight maintenance is a priority for you. Guest guest
Hi Rhonda, I agree that stress played a part in my undereating when first diagnosed, then in overeating post-chemo. It was easy to loose weight when nothing with processed sugar in it tasted good :-) And when my taste buds returned I went back to all the sweets that I liked. I'm trying to exercise now, but dealing with arthritic-like pains that I have. All part of the journey I suppose. Take care, and welcome to the group! -

Guest guest
I had no arthritic symptoms before chemo. My mother has arthritis but she's 84. I'm taking glucosamine and mortrin. They say you have to take glucosamine for a month to benefit. I don't mind the pain/discomfort if it's a temporary thing. Just don't know what side effects are permanent and which will eventually go away. I'm a year from first being diagnosed, and still doing Herceptin. I had my annual last week, and my doctor is running some tests to see if it is arthritis or a thyroid problem. thanks for asking,
