Guest guest
I have not tested with Entrolab, however I did do a complete Celiac Bloodwork Panal and an endoscopy with 8 small bowl biopsies. I do not have celiac disease, however my Gliadin IGG was a hair high (this is the old blood test that is TOO sensitive and is not specific enough...it gives too many false positives. That is why the came up with the Imunoglobulin A test which is supposed to be more specific). This is interesting because I tested positive in bloodwork for a wheat ALLERGY. So I guess while I do not have Celiac, I do have a sensitivity. I have often wondered if these labs like Entrolab are really picking up sensitivities to wheat and or gluten and not true Celiac. Guest guest
, The test at Enterolab for Celiac IS for Immunoglobulin A and because it is taken from the stool where the reaction takes place, it is almost 100% accurate. The blood tests are less than 50% accurate. The biopsies are also not very accurate. The small intestine is about 25 feet long and even if there are multiple biopsies one cannot expect that the entire intestine is damaged and then there is the factor where the people reading the biopsies all to often don't know what they are looking at. If one finds the IgA specific to gliadin (the part of the protein in gluten that gives the trouble from wheat) one has an IgA reaction to gluten whether it is taken from the blood or from the stool. There is no such thing as " real " Celiac disease. Either you have it or you don't. If the IgA is there, one has it regardless of what they want to call it or where they get it. If one does a biopsy on one's kidney and finds the IgA specific for gluten, one has it. It doesn't have to be found in the small intestine. If they do a biopsy on the skin of somebody who has the skin involvement and they find IgA specific to gliadin (wheat gluten), they have it. It is a very specific test and not one where they can be confused with some other reaction. Enterolab has the most accurate tests, the best there is because it is taken directly from the intestine where the reaction takes place. If one wants to know whether or not one has this thing with gluten, getting the most accurate up to date test seems the sensible thing to do instead of choosing one that is over fifty per cent inaccurate. Just my thought on the subject. Arline > I have not tested with Entrolab, however I did do a > complete Celiac > Bloodwork Panal and an endoscopy with 8 small bowl > biopsies. Guest guest
I guess I disagree on the accuracy percentages you report. The biopsys are considered even by most of the celiac sites to be the most accurate test for celiac. I also have to wonder about a lab test that everyone tests positive for. I have never known anyone who took that test who tested negative. Also, the Entrolab test is not supported by all physicians. Many doctors would not support a diagnosis of Celiac Sprue without a biopsy comming back positive (I had 8 biopys. The doctor took them all the way down the small bowl). And yes, you can be sensitive to wheat and not have celiac disease which is a conditon where the villi are distroyed by gluten. A sensitivity may be an allergy which reacts with the T cells but not with the lining of the gut. I have an allergy to wheat. This was found with a completely different blood test. _________________________________________________________________ All-in-one security and maintenance for your PC. Sometimes the villi are only slightly damaged and that is one reason why the blood tests are not accurate. (there are others). I don't think a wheat allergy would cause the kind of pain that the people on this list usually have. I do think the autoimmune attacks where the nerves are proliferated and destroyed would and that is not the reaction of an allergy.?? The difference usually between white bread and whole grain bread is that there is less gluten in the white bread as it has been processed out to make it fluffy instead of chewy. Gluten is chewy like in bagels and pizza dough. It is good to discuss these things. We all have choices and my choice involved believing new up to date research and real life experiences and the words of hundreds of others. I was realliy tired of being told that I had a dozen acronyms and there was no cure--LS IBS FMS and I can't even remember the rest. They didn't mean anything. I could not and would not accept sickness any longer. If you are getting well and happy with your health I suggest that you continue in that way. I do wish you good health though. Guest guest
I think that even if I were able to do the test from Enterolab I would follow up with a biopsy of my small intestines to see the comparative results. It may have to wait til next year however to do that b/c I'm waiting to see if our insurance is going to stay the same or not. Guest guest
Hi , Your email about the probiotic was interesting. I noticed that it was mostly lactobacillus which is probably desirable. If you are talking about me, no I am not offended but I do do get impatient trying to encourage people to get the best tests and not the ones that are notoriously inaccurate. When I say notoriously inaccurate, I don't expect the docs in your local offices to say that. I know very well what they say. I have lived through most of my life having test after test, being declared healthy as a horse, and sent on my way. I wasn't healthy as a horse and was barely functioning. They are the ones who don't know. The profession is closely controlled to say the right things. They're not encouraged to look beyond the gospels they are supposed to treat and diagnose by. The doctors who care to look for more than the same old any kind of test is the doctor I want although I certainly will find out as much as I can on my own. There are all kinds of wars going on in medicine about this sort of thing. For example what do you think about the mercury thing and the epidemic occurrences of autism. The injectons are still being given. Along with that, injections are often given with the guns that shoot the air with a chemical (I forget) which apparently is giving babies and children some sort of brain effect. Some have said that since 1989 the children being born are the most unhealthy ever. ?? The best medicine is the one where doctors can use their heads and do the best for their patients without being constrained by fifty year old stereotypes and forced to use obviously outdated bad diagnostics and meds. That is how we have progress-- in medicine and everything else. The parents and people and doctors who are fighting to change this are heroes. You are right, not eating wheat because you are allergic means getting less gluten but gluten also is in rye, barley, and most oats which are contaminated, Most processed food has gluten in it. However I notice more and more foods that are taking it out. But less gluten is better than more.
