JanetB,

I got CMF but I know some of the ladies that got some of the other drugs said to

chew on ice to avoid mouth sores. If I remember right, A/C was one of them. I

will keep you in my prayers.

First Chemo Tomorrow - More Advice?

Hi all -

It has been 5 days since my Dad's memorial celebration service and his

death still seems surreal. I want to sincerely thank you all for your

notes of sympathy and your encouragement. It means the world to me.

Tomorrow is my first chemo - A/C. Besides drinking lots of water and

trying to stay ahead of constipation, any other advice for me? I'm so

worn down emotionally at this point that I'm not all that nervous.

Love to you all,

Janet B.

Janet –

I read where other women took ice chips or Popsicles to the treatment. I

didn’t’ know about this until I was done, but was fortunate that I didn’t

have any major mouth sores. The only other thing I can think of is to take

care of yourself, rest and don’t be hard on yourself as the chemo takes it

toll and you feel tired and unable to do the simplest things. Allow

yourself that bedtime and the rest you need to recuperate.

Dear Janet,

When my Dad died, I didn't fully " feel " it for a month. My Mom was diagnosed

with BC right before

he died, so we were all pretty busy. I think I know how you feel.

And, if the IV is going to be in your hand/arm, wear pull down pants so that you

can get to the

bathroom easier. You have to throw back the fluids so that the chemo doesn't

irritate your bladder

during the chemo, so the bathroom usually beckons right after the Adriamycin.

Take care,

I know how you feel... Found out I had breast cancer May 2002 ... had operation

on Memorial Day Week-end 2002 and had just gone through 4 chemos going every

three weeks. Was going to have my 5th chemo on Sept 9 a Monday and lost my Mom

suddenly on Sunday Sept 8th 2002...It was hard to go to Chemo the next day and

then the viewing on Thurs and Memorial Service on Friday of that week...At the

time I was working and living by myself but I managed to go on with my life like

my Mom would have wanted me to do...The Lord was with me all the way...

Just take one day at a time and you will get through it...God be with you.

If you need to talk to someone my computer is on most of the day.

I was given the recipe to help with the mouth sore.

It is called SPC Mouthwash,

1. 8 ounces of water to 1/2 teaspoon of salt.

2. 8 ounces of Cepacal.

3. 8 ounces of hydrogen peroxide.

4. Mix the above and use to gargle every two to three

hours for mouth discomfort.

I developed thrush (like what babies get) I had it so

bad I couldn't eat for 3 days. I used this plus I

used Glyoxide. Was over it quickly.
