Guest guest
Hello my name is Capri. I'm having open RNY surgery on October 22nd at the Kaiser in Harbor City, CA with Dr. Belzberg. I have a question about getting a epiderol. The surgeon wants me to have an epiderol versus morphine button. Has anyone had an epiderol? Do they put you to sleep before doing this? Any advice is appreciated as well as prayers. Thanks Capri
Guest guest
I had an epidural with my c-section but since I have not had WLS yet, I cannot say if they use them or not. Epidural are not normally done when you are under as they need you to be sitting up so they can put the tube (extremely narrow like a needle but flexible) in your back. It is somewhat painful ut they use a local to numb the area somewhat and after the tube is in you don't feel it. ===== Heidi Lauw
Guest guest
Capri, I am not a doctor of course and am not familiar with what they can, or can not do, re WLS. However, last year I had a hysterectomy and asked for both an epidural and to be put on the morphine button afterwards. [A tip that was given to me a friend of my that is a recovery nurse] I had NO PAIN whatsoever at any time after surgery outside of feeling my stomach was swollen. As I recall, I used the morphine button once (just to see what would happen really) and never used it again, but it was nice to know that it was there if I needed it. I plan on asking for both during my WLS. The person to actually speak to this about is your anesthesiologist[sp]. He/she actually makes the decisions in this regard. Good luck with your surgery! P.S. I noted another poster indicate that you might need to be awake to have the epidural. If I was, I do not remember it and there was certainly no pain involved either. I think that they do the epidural and cathater[sp] pretty much at the same time.
