Dear Carole, I am so sorry you are having a bad day. I will be praying for you to feel better very soon. Love, Shirley

Hi Shirley,

Thank you for your support and concern but right now I think I need an attitude adjustment....I'm working on it. :) It's a bad day in every way here (weather is nasty outside...cold and rainy) which makes everything seem much worse or at least it does for me. I found something on "Attitude" years ago that I keep in a folder that has helped me through some rough times. I'd like to share it with you:

ATTITUDE

The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life.

Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearances, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company....a church....a home....

The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day....We cannot change our past... We cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the

inevitable.... The only thing that we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude.

I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it. And so it is with you... We are in charge of our attitudes.

How are you doing? Are you getting sleep at night now? What kind of Enzymes did they put you on to help with digestion? Are you having any pain now? Is your arm any better? Hope you are having a great day and getting plenty of rest! Thanks for being you, Shirley...you are a dear friend.

Love you,

Carole

Hi Carole, I don't know where this red writing came from but oh well. I don't like it but after reading your attitude writings I must not let it bother me. lol I truly believe that attitude means everything. It's hard sometimes to have a good attitude when you just get knocked down time after time but we must keep a positive attitude or we will have nothing left.

I am sleeping better now since I got the elavil in my system. I slept most of the day today so tonight might not be a good sleeping night. But what do I expect.lol My arm is still painful. I plan to have the port removed as soon as the coumadin is out of my body. I think that will be around March.

I am concerned though that I might have a blood clot and when the doctor removes the port the blood clot might let loose and travel. I am going to have a talk with him in Feb. about this. Maybe he will have me have a contrast x-ray to make sure if there is a clot or not.

I was discharged from the hospital with pancrease and since I have so much viokase here at home I switched to that. I have taken viokase since 1985 and I find that it helps with the pain a lot.

I am still having pain and am able to eat part of a meal. Sometimes I eat too much and it hurts. I have to remember it has only been 6 weeks since the surgery. Today is a bad day. I ate some foods yesterday that I shouldn't have eaten yet. This too will pass.

Carole, I hope you feel better tomorrow. I will pray for you tonight when I say my nightly prayers. It makes me so sad that so many of us have to suffer so. Thanks for being there Carole and thanks for being you. You are a wonderful person so you remember that and maybe it will make you feel a little better. Love, Shirley

I am very depressed and sad. I have been crying constantly. I am so sorry for being a cry baby to you but I went thru so much and have gone thru so much for so long and now I have to accept my lot.

Hi Shirley,

You are not a cry baby, Shirley...never have been and you never will be. You have a right to feel all the emotions you are feeling right now. You need to let out all those emotions you have inside you but please, please remember it's only been seven weeks since you had major surgery...not once but twice.

I'm sure the others who have had this same surgery did not have the problem with bleeding which made the surgeon have to go back in the second time. I'm sure you still have swelling from the surgery in your Pancreas area which, I think, could possibly cause Pancreatitis pain. Try to give yourself at least another month and see how things go.

We all need you here and need to know how things are going with you...the negatives and the positives. We will help you through this as you have always helped us....we need each other.

As I've said before, we all love you, Shirley, and I'm sure once the healing is completed inside your body, that pain will go away. Just get plenty of rest and allow the time needed for you to heal both mentally and physically.

You are and always will be in my daily thoughts and prayers. May God bless you and give you the strength you need right now.

Shirley, my friend, you can cry on my shoulder anytime. I will always be here for you if you need me.

Hugs & Prayers

Carole

Dear Shirley,

You have been an inspiration to me with all that you have gone through and

believe me, you are with me every day....I keep you in my heart. If I have

surgery, I'm sure I will feel your presence even though we live so far away

from each other..... " A true friend is never far. " You are a true friend and

I am thankful I have you. It was wonderful when I finally got to hear your

voice while you were in the hospital....it is my hope that one day I will put

a face with your sweet voice. Thanks for your love, support, prayers and

just being there for me. You have no idea what that means to me.

I'm so happy you are finally able to eat and without pain from the Pancreas.

I know you still have other problems you are having to deal with and I want

you to know that you are and always will be in my daily prayers.

Thanks again, Shirley and let me know how you are doing. You're a very

" special " lady in my book!

Hugs & Prayers

Hi Shirley,

You have been sick for such a long time, had your Pancreas removed only three

months ago and I'm sure your husband has watched you in such pain so many

times, he is probably afraid he will hurt you or cause you more pain....your

age has nothing to do with it! One can be too sick but never too old and I'm

sure he hasn't forgotten....just afraid because he loves you so much and

knows better than anyone the hell you've been through. I'm sure he loves you

so much and doesn't want to take a chance on causing you any more pain.

Sometimes my husband is afraid that it will bring on an attack but I don't

think it has anything to do with it. He seems to be more afraid than I am so

maybe your husband feels the same way. Of course, I haven't been as sick as

you have been and that in itself would make a big difference.

Shirley, you mentioned you have no hormones. Why don't you take hormones? I

believe you once said you had had cancer and is that why you won't take

hormones?

I also feel guilty when I talk about my sisters but we both know that we love

our sisters. We also know that if we're around them very much, they make us

feel worse emotionally which doesn't help us heal physically....so they leave

us no choice. Enough about our sisters, I will try to be good, too!

As for me, I'm doing fine and I believe the Creon is helping me digest my

food. I don't eat a lot and I'm being very careful with what I eat...trying

not to have another attack.

I have been worried about Henry, too. I don't know how to get in touch with

him. I've sent him emails but never got a reply. Does anyone know how to

reach him so we can find out if he's okay? There must be something wrong or

he would be posting by now!

Take care of yourself, Shirley....I have decided I will adopt you as my

sister. Does that mean we are " Cyber-Sisters? " :) Hope you sleep better

tonight!

Hugs & Prayers

Carole

Hi Shirley,

Thanks you, Shirley...what would we have if we didn't have hope? You are a

big help to me just being my friend and knowing that you care. I guess I've

reached a point with this that I'm tired of all the talking and want the MRCP

results NOW so the surgery can be done and get it behind me. I just hate

that the MRCP can't be done until the 18th. I hope it's possible to drain

the pseudocyst through the intestine instead of cutting a portion of the tail

of the Pancreas off but I've never heard of draining a cyst through the

intestine, have you? I guess it's not much different than the way he did the

first cyst by draining it through the stomach....who knows?

Thanks again!
