Guest guest
You sound like you had the same issue that I had. The doctor had to go in and re-open the passage way between my stomach and my esophegus. The Gastric doctor does the procedure. That happens is the flesh swells up and leaves very little room for the food to pass through. So the doctor has to re-open the passage way with a ballon type aperatus. Talk to your doctor, that may be the solution to your problem. The grits may have swelled inside your system and couldn't get through. But talk to your doctor and see what he says. I hope this information has helped. > > I need some help. I am now three weeks post op and supposed to be able > to eat pureed foods, and very few can I get and keep down. Guest guest
, I am only a week ahead of you, and I am going through much of the same thing. My doc wants me on solid food now (he does clear liquids the first day, pureed foods the second day, and solids at week three!). I have a hard time keeping things down too. It has taken me a week of vomiting to figure things out with my body. At least I think I have figured it out a little. These are the things I am doing now: - sip a small cup of tea or hot water before a meal to get all the mucous in the pouch that is hanging around clogging things up to pass through. - take tiny, tiny, tiny bites and chew them up until there is nothing left but a memory in your mouth. -wait at least a minute or two (literally, like count to 100) before attempting the next bite. -if you feel a pain in the middle of your chest (for me, it is between the breasts) then STOP eating. Wait 10 minutes before deciding if you want to try again or leave it at what little you got down. - don't stress ('cause I already did it for ya!) and know that this is part of learning your new body - remember that you had most of your stomach disconnected and your guts rearranged just three weeks ago- healing take time and lots of patience. - know that this too, shall pass! Hugs and healing, Haley > I need some help. I am now three weeks post op and supposed to be able > to eat pureed foods, and very few can I get and keep down. Guest guest
Swelling grits rung a cord with me. I tried rice at about three weeks. It was very well cooked and I ate maybe a spoonful only. I got VERY sick and was basically throwing up strong for more than I cared to; dry heaving, the whole nine yards. Needless to say I was scared off rice for a good month or two. I can have it now no problem. We don't do grits much here in Michigan but I was born in Texas so maybe I should try some again eh? Mike in GR > > > > I need some help. Guest guest
Haley, That's great advice. That pretty much mirrors what I had to do to a T. I still, sometimes, eat too fast or too much to fast and get that tightness in my chest. Then I get to sit for 10-15 minutes and beat myself up mentally while my family asks, " Is everything okay? " Then I reply, " Oh yeah great " while I sit there with 2-3 bites of food down only. It's all a learning process, for me at least it is. It's going to take me a bit longer before it becomes second nature. I get better at it every day though. Mike in GR > > > I need some help. Guest guest
, You need to contact your surgeon's office. He will probably want to see you but you need to make sure you start eating foods again and that your healing enough for them to pass through your pouch. Keep us updated on how your feeling. Guest guest
H. I am also three weeks out today. I am on soft foods, fish, some veggies, chicken. So far I ahve had chicken get stuck- looking back I do not think I chewed it long enough. Try counting to 30 or singing the ABC's as you chew. Remember tiny bites. And-if at first you don't succeed, well wait a couple of days and try again. Good luck to you, I will keep you in my thoughts. wls 7/19 264/237/

Yesterday I tried grits and they were wonderful, this morning I did the same, but this time they just didn't seem to go down right or something, just like a lot of things. Guest guest
HI , I am so sorry you are sick. My dr. told me that when if I experience that, to go to liquids for the rest of the day and try something else the next day. It is going to take time to figure out what works for you. It will get better... Best Wishes, Shauna > > I need some help. I am now three weeks post op and supposed to be able > to eat pureed foods, and very few can I get and keep down. Guest guest
Sorry to hear that you are all getting and staying sick. I have been lucky. I haven't overdone it and I remember someone once suggesting using a baby spoon for eating. I have been using my kids's baby spoons. LOL. I have been slowing getting more in and the pain I have the most now is the hernia pain. I am learning to read my bodies clues. I am still on purreed until I see the Doctor on the 23rd. Then we'll see the next step. I did have an egg substitute this morning and I also remembered to chew chew chew and that is what I did, chewed chewed chewed, chewed!!!!. I don't have much more to offer. I do have a new drink for those who like flavored water. It's aquafina, citrus blend water. It's so good. At least if I get tired of reg water, I have something good to drink. I also found the little stryofoam glass that they usually use for coffee at social functions at good for me to drink from. I don't have a big glass and my water stays so nice and cool and doesn't become warm from the ice melting on these hot days. I also had to ask. I know some might have had hernia operations either with the bypass or maybe at other times. Does anyone have ANY advise on this???? It's like my muscles are so tight and I just can't relax them and that is when the pain sets in. I can't walk right with it nor sit to long. It's a pain!!!!!..
