Guest guest
Hi Everyone - I had my open gastric bypass on July 14, but haven't had access to a computer till now. I wanted to thank you all for all the information you provide when you post -- truly, if it wasn't for what I read on this list, I'm not sure I would have survived the first two weeks! Because of family issues, the recovery's been harder than I expected, but I was able to handle the adjustment issues better because you'd warned me and encouraged me, even though you didn't know you were talking to me! I've lost 22 pounds so far (the official goal is 50, I'm hoping to work it well enough to make it to 65) and do feel an enormous change in how I move and look, which has been encouraging. I realize I've had it a lot easier than a lot of you and am really awed at how hard you've had to work and how positive you are. I had a BMI of 38 but had severe sleep apnea, diabetes and arthritis, which is why I was eligible for surgery. But so many of you have so much more to contend with (and families to care for as well), that it just amazes me. NOW I have some small idea of what you who have more weight to lose go through and I cannot tell you how much I truly admire you. You're one courageous group of people, and the kindness and open sharing of what you've experienced is a great gift to those of us who are just starting our journey. I don't know when I'll have access to a computer again till I go back to work (end of August), but till then thank you again, so much -- and you go for it -- you are all such winners, whether it's weight loss or dealing with unsupportive friends and family!!!
