Guest guest
About night sweats: I was having night sweats after the doctor took me off HRT and was dealing with it using herbs, etc. When I went off thyroid med.-preparing for scan, they increased and I became very concerned and thought maybe it was thyca. Then one day someone mentioned that they loved Sundrop cola and stated that the caffeine made her have sweats. I took caffeine out of my diet and they have almost dissappeared. I do have one sometimes but they are not as severe. So that is something you can try. I love Pepsi and now I just get decaff. I can' t tell a difference. Guest guest
Hi Cheryl - I am from NC also - Salisbury. Where do you live? I was interested in your response and have had hot flashes after going off HRT. I love coffee, but now am wondering if that is the culprit? I don't know if I can do without my caffeine. Maybe I will try. a TT 10/25 for PapCa.,(Nodule 3.5cm) RAI 102-12/18, WBS 11/01-Clean a Re: night sweats About night sweats: I was having night sweats after the doctor took me off HRT and was dealing with it using herbs, etc. When I went off thyroid med.-preparing for scan, they increased and I became very concerned and thought maybe it was thyca. Guest guest
Barb, ALWAYS check with your onc before taking anything. Everyones case is different. I will keep you in my prayers. I had night sweats for a couple years. My doctor suggested I use black cohosh, which I did and it helped. I stopped figuring I had gone through menopause (my Mom did at 52, I'm now 54). I had a hysterectomy years ago, but still have my ovaries, so my periods were not a way to determine menopause. I am having terrible night sweats and cannot sleep at night. I have hot flashes as well, but these are not as bothersome. The night sweats started again, about the time I started this bc journey with the biopsies. I'd like to start taking the black cohosh again to see if it helps, but I have read some things that say this may not be recommended for bc patients. I'm assuming due to the estrogen-like herb. But, since I am ER/PR-, should that make a difference? Anyone else have any info on that? Anyway, I will be asking my oncologist about the black cohosh or other suggestions for night sweats, but I just wanted to know what anyone else might be using, whether it be menopause or chemopause. Help? Barb
Guest guest
Barb, You might want to try evening primrose oil, it worked well for my hot flashes. Also the prescription medicine-Bellamine-works well. Since you were Estrogen- I would think that it wouldn't make much difference, I was advised not to use black cohosh because I was Er+ Pam
Guest guest
Talked to the onc today and he said to try the black cohosh. If in 2-3 weeks it didn't work, he'd prescribe something else (anti-depressant w/something). He said I need not worry about the black cohosh where hormones was concerned, as you said, I'm ER/PR-, so it is not a problem. He also said he had a lot of things we could try to help that. (Thank you, Lord.) Barb Re: Night Sweats Barb, You might want to try evening primrose oil, it worked well for my hot flashes. Also the prescription medicine-Bellamine-works well. Guest guest
Barb I have had night sweats for a long long time......46 to be exact. Before cancer I was taking soy Isoflavones daily and it worked for me. Not everyone gets good results but I have gone through the night sweats where everything is soaked and the hot flashes. Seem like since I had surgery I haven't needed the soy. Costco sells a plain soy isoflavone pill.............with nothing else added...and that's what I used. Hope it helps you. Guest guest
Janet, There have been articles that soy is not good to take if you have/had bc. I can't remember exactly why but will see if I can find an article on it or maybe one of the other ladies has an article. Guest guest
Thanks, Janet. I've started the black cohosh, but it will take 2-3 weeks to see if it works. If that doesn't, I'll try the soy. I've heard of that as well. Would rather go natural than more meds. Barb Re: Night Sweats Barb I have had night sweats for a long long time......46 to be exact.
