Guest guest
Hi !! Welcome to the group, nice to meet you. I look forward to learning more about you and sharing with you my journey. You will read a lot through our interaction here. We have members who are in the waiting process for surgery and other's like you needing questions answered. We have two ladies who just had surgery this last week, that will help you have some idea of what they are going through right now. Some of us are just months out and others are years out. Please ask away with any questions. We would be glad to answer them. Best wishes!! Congratulations on trying to find a healthier lifestyle. I am a 31 year old male from New York. I am 5'7 and 375lbs. I have dieted in the past with some success but always seem to find some reason to fall off the wagon and never get back on in time to right the ship. I have known some people who have gotten the surgery and it has worked wonders on them, I am just wondering what everyones experience here is. I guess I am nervous and scared about the idea of a surgery, but delighted by the outcome if I indeed am able to go forward with it. I have not seen any doctor for my weight nor about the possibility of the surgery, I guess I am just doing some field work finding out about the whole thing. I am pretty happy with my life, I have a wonderful partner of 6 years and a loving family, a good job and an outgoing personality. I am concerned more then anything about not being here in 10 years to share in all of that with them. I thank you all in advance for your ideas, support or questions to me. Thanks, __________________________________________________

Guest guest
Hi , I had my surgery on may 10th this year and it is the best thing I have ever done. I too was very scared and apprehensive about having surgery but once I found out about it I knoew it was for me. At the beginning it is not going to be easy but as long as you have your partner and family and friends( like us here at Loserville) you will breeze through it all. If I were you I would be discussing your options with your GP and go from there. You have to make the right decision for you. If you have any questions fire away because we are all here to help you. Guest guest
, Hi. I am 5 feet, 39, and weigh 264. I am in a very happy marriage and have two lovely children. I weighed my surgery option carefully as well because I love my life. Great family and friends. My weight does not stop me from doing many things at all. But I ,like you, thought at this rate will I be here in 10 or 20 years? I decided I wanted to go for it. I have had many questions which have been answered through research and on this board. I am having to self pay which I think may have moved my case along a bit more quickly than those who must go through insurance. I am scheduled for the middle of July and right now I am trying to be patient, ask questions of people who have been there, and looking forward to a healthier life. Hope this gives you some insight. Guest guest
I like you have always dieted with some success but the weight always crept back on when I managed to fall off track. I have a wonderful husband and three beautiful kids and great friends. I was miserable inside. I was tired all the time, couldnt walk upstairs without getting winded. I was on anti depressants with a weight of 290 and climbing. I had my surgery on the 24th of January and my whole life has changed for the better. I have lost 92 pounds so far. I get out there and do things with my kids. Ride bikes, play football. This is the best decision I have ever made. Im looking forward to my tummy tuck in about a yr from now. I look forward to the next ten to twenty years. Guest guest
Welcome to the group. There are alot of awesome people here, all in various stages of the WLS journey. There is lots of support and information. I am 7 weeks out, 40 pounds down and feeling great. I really saw my surgery as my last resort, after trying every diet out there. I have been heavy my entire life, now I am finally on the right track. Good luck to you. Guest guest
Hi , I'm Terri, I'm 2 year out as of June 10th. Much like you I love my life, family, friends and nothing I would like to change about it. But I want to make sure I could activily participate in that life for as long as possible. Unfortunately before my surgery I weighed 280 lbs, 5'5 " tall, had type II diabetes that was out of control despite 2 different medications and high blood pressure. I am happy to report that I am down 100 lbs do not take any medication for diabetes or blood pressure and I feel fantastic. My blood work up shows that I have blood sugar levels of a non-diabetic and my blood pressure at my last medical exam was 108/64. There is no doubt that I would do it again in a heartbeat. My dad had surgery in December 2005 and is down 95 lbs with similar health outcome. He also says he would have the surgery again. My advice to you is to get as much information about the surgery and the post-op period as you can. The more informed you are, the better decision you can make and have the best outcome. I attended WLS support group for about 1 year before my surgery and had a pretty good idea what to expect. If you can find a group in your area I encourage you to go and hear what others have to say. I wish you the best what ever you decide to do.
