Guest guest
Hi Pam, It's here. I am also 2 months post-op and have only lost 43 pounds. I too get a bit disheartened to hear that other WLS patients lose alot more than I have. I know 43 pounds is great and I look great too but I too wish I could lose alot more quickly. I know how you are feeling. Australia WHAT AM I DOING WRONG???? I am 2 months post op & have only lost 31 pds. I keep reading about all these other people losing 30 pds in two weeks, 80 pds in 2 months, etc. By the way, congratulations to all of you. I know you must be absolutely thrilled and I am so happy for all of you. I just wish I knew what I was doing wrong. Is there anyone else out there who is losing as slowly as me? Guest guest
I started out losing 30 lbs in my first two weeks and then stopped for a month. By my second month I started losing again, I went into my 3rd month I think only weighing like 40+ lbs as well. When I went and seen my doctor, he asked me, " are you eating anything you shouldn't " Because I had only lost a 1/2 lb since my last visit, yet I had not been eating what I shouldn't. His nurse told me, " What? Did you think it was going to just melt off " , I said YES! I was hoping hahahaha As I became more active and able to take in more protein and water, I started losing on a regular basis. Protein and water is probably 98% of what I eat now. Remember, everyone is different too. Right now you might be slow, but it will catch up. This has to be a lifestyle change... and when your body is not losing, it is resting and preparing to lose again. Also, us women have our womenly's that also add on to the slow weight loss each month. Just keep up the hard work!! It WILL pay off. Best Wishes, Shauna wrote: Hi Pam, It's here. Guest guest
Hi Pam ) I've also been a slow loser. I has surgery on April 5th of this year and initially lost about 28-30 pounds, then hit a monthlong plateau!! I was so worried and disappointed!! I wondered if I would be that person the surgery just doesn't work for... but I knew I had the scars to prove that he'd gone in there and done the surgery, so I just kept the faith and did what he told me to do w/intake and light exercise. Sure enough, one day I got on the scale and it had budged half a pound. Not much, but I knew it was a good sign. Since then I've lost steadily- sometimes faster, sometimes slower- but knock on wood, I haven't hit another plateau yet. As of Wednesday, I'm 3 months out from surgery and have lost 51.5 lbs since surgery, 66.5 including the pre-surgery liquid diet, and 80.5 since my highest weight. So it's coming off, but sometimes not as quickly as I'd hoped. I think the speed of the weight loss also depends on how much you had to lose in the first place... but don't worry, it will come off. ) Have a great day, Susie > > I am 2 months post op & have only lost 31 pds. Guest guest
Hi Pam, I don't know about you, but I can't remember ever the time I lost 31 lbs in 2 months prior to WLS, can you? I know I would have been delighted with those results pre-surgery. Keep in mind a few things: - The heavier you are pre-surgery the quicker you will lose. - Men lose faster then us ladies (but we live longer on average!) - At 15 lbs per month, in six months you will be down 90 lbs! - It took a lot longer for us to get to our pre-surgery weight than it will getting it off after surgery. I lost about 90 lbs the first year, 40 additional the second year. I would have been horrified if I had gained weight at that rate. - Some people exercise a lot the first year and lose weight quicker. - Unfortunately, the older we are when we have surgery, the more our bodies seem to want to hold on to it. Stay on track, get into exercise and follow your program, the rest will come. Best wishes! Terri > > I am 2 months post op & have only lost 31 pds. Guest guest
I agree Mike, all the weight from the highest weight should count. Mike Tune wrote: Why do most people only count the weight lost AFTER surgery? I feel that weight lost is weight lost, I had to lose some before surgery and I feel like that is just as important as the weight after? For people like us, the hardest weight we had to lose was before surgery when we could eat anything we wanted.....Can some folks please give me your opinon on this issue. Guest guest
I count my weight loss before surgery as well! To me weight lost is weight lost! I lost 18.5 lbs on my pre-op diet. I'm darn proud of it too! :-) 380/348/160 Mike Tune wrote: > Why do most people only count the weight lost AFTER surgery?
