Guest guest
My son has had the BIG D for a week now and I'm trying to figure out how to return him to status of 2-3 weeks ago. It started off as explosive liquid - went to mucus - and is now mush with bits of undigested food that burns his bottom. (Sorry, but I'm not sure what details are important!) He'd been SCD strict since April but we have been battling yeast for the summer with only moderate success until I combined Nystatin with Oil of Oregano. This was over the week of traveling for vacation and just returning home - and I saw a huge language leap. But, concerned about resistance I tried rotating to a combination Nystatin with No Phenol and Candex at bedtime. This worked for 2 days and then the D started when I reintroduced nut yogurt (our batch carried from home on vacation failed and his only probiotics were CP Acid. for the last 3 days of vacation). I tried cutting back volume on nut yogurt, but no improvement - so I stopped it completely and went back to Nystatin with Oil of Oregeno, even stopped Acid. fearing the probiotics were too strong. His language has not regressed from the recent gains - but his temper is worse than anything I've ever seen - whiny, aggressive, emotional. I'm really having a hard time reading the signs - in the past he had some D when a big yeast die-off, but only for a day, and not the other things like mucus and burning. So where do I go back to, or maybe " onto " is a better phrasing? Is the intro diet any more " gentle " on his system? Could this be a sign of something else intestinal - like bacteria? Guest guest
AMK, It is always possible that he caught a virus while you were traveling. Whenever kids' stool regress, I always recommend going back to as close to the intro diet as possible for a couple of days. Then resume reintroducing peeled, well-cooked fruits and veggies. I do hope he is feeling better soon. Jody mom to -5 and -7 SCD 18 months
Guest guest
AMK, It's hard to know what might be going on here.... since you've made quite a few changes. Going on vacation, with changes in routine, etc..... can upset the system, too. I do know a couple of other parents who've said they've had problems with yeast coming back after Nystatin. Have you ever tried the fresh carrot juice with fresh garlic yeast treatment that has come up on this list? Tamaro says it's the best yeast treatment by far..... over all the prescription or natural antifungals she's tried. It sounds like you might be dealing with a couple of different things..... one, you're seeing behavioral stuff that makes me think " die off " , simply because you're seeing good things (no regression) along with it..... then, two, you're seeing the D, which definitely isn't OK. It does kinda sound like some kind of mild intestinal infection.... with the mucous you've seen. I guess I would go back to a simpler, blander diet..... make sure all fruits and veggies are peeled and cooked for a while.... and just keep getting the acidophilus in somehow. Since there was no change when you cut back on the nut yogurt, I'd be tempted to hang in there and keep using it..... getting the good guys down there is so important. I don't know how much oil of oregano you were using.... but I have heard that it's not good to use it for more than a few days at a time. Pretty strong stuff. Maybe you could consider taking a break from all the anti-fungals for a little bit...... a week or so?..... to give his sytem a rest. Consider trying the carrot juice thing...... if you can get him to do it.... or if he can tolerate it (I think said she gave her boys 4 oz of fresh carrot juice with one whole garlic clove crushed into it, twice a day for several weeks). I hope he's better by now...... as I know you posted this a few days ago. Patti, mom to Katera, SCD 14 months Yeast Battle/Relapse - Advice? Guest guest
I don't think diluted it..... and you wouldn't need to unless you were brand new to SCD maybe. The best carrot juice would be freshly juiced at home. Patti Re: Yeast Battle/Relapse - Advice? Patti, I'd like to try this treatment. Should I dilute the juice before drinking?
