Guest guest
Hi Markie, I wanted to tell you I know exactly how you feel about the Dr.s and weight! I am WAY overweight! I went for a year listening to Dr.s tell me I just needed to lose weight and get rid of my stress........the Dr.s were my stress!!!!! It seems the minute I walked into their office I was pegged as a fat woman with lots of complaints......then i spent most of my time trying to convince the Dr I was really sick. Now that I have a Dr who listens and is treating me.....it is hard for me to let him be the Dr. He is always telling me to be a good patient and let him do his work. It seems my family are the ones who have the hardest time understanding what I am going through! No matter how many times I try and explain it.. they just don't get it. they seem to think i am going to get better and one day wake up feeling wonderful and refreshed!!! I'm so glad you found us and hope you are around for a very long time! BTW, I grew up in Ohio, place called Ashville, south of Columbus. Take care of you! Congrats on your son's marriage! Guest guest
Hi Becky, I had one doc tell me that he found if he listened to the patients and what they had to say, they generally knew what was wrong. Then he added, but in this case, you are wrong after all I am the doctor and you don't have trouble with your pancreas. Needless to say, they didn't listen and now it is chronic. You just don't forget what it is like to have an attack!!! Thanks for the encouragement and support. Guest guest
Hi Markie, This is Rich in Hawaii, Don't take everything you see on this board to be intrusive or vindictive in any way - most everyone is trying to be supportive and informative (to the best of their experiences). Take what helps you, share your experience and allow the rest to just flow. I don't know if this is the right board for you but it sure sounds like it to me. We are all going through basicly the same frustrations, problems and day to day angst with Dr.s, hospitals and uncaring nurses etc. Hang in there Markie, and if you want to contact me direct please feel free, I would welcome it and will try to help you any way I can. Guest guest
Hello Rich and thanks. I think I was just feeling pretty emotional when I read the post to me. I sometimes feel so alone when I get to hurting and know there isn't a whole lot I can do about it. Sometimes it helps to vent and just get things off of one's chest. I have found a lot of support here from everyone. Thanks again for your support. The private practice that I work in with my husband is Together We Can Counseling Center. I think that is pretty much the way this board appears to work. Togehter we can make a difference for each other. I don't know if this will offend anyone, but, we use a scripture from Hosea that says " Can two walk together except they be agreed. " Walking this road has truely been difficult at times for me and I know it has for everyone whose life is touched by pancreatitis. Guest guest
Markie, glad you got the meds. Hope it helps. I know, sometimes I'd rather be in the hospital than deal with the pain. Half the time, when it gets that bad, I DO go to the hospital. I'm whimp when it comes to pain. I just can't deal with it. I know about the fast food. I'd love some curly fries from Arby's. Those are my favorite. But not really worth the price in my opinion. Not much is worth that price. Anyways, glad the medicine is of use to someone. Kimber hominid2@... Guest guest
Hi Kimber. It took me a while to figure out that what I ate had a great deal to do with how I felt. I had a bowl of loaded baked potatoe soup and ended up in the hospital. Did the same thing with biscuits and gravy. No Most of the time it isn't worth the price! Guest guest
Markie, I was lucky, my GI explained the issues about fat and acid and how they stimulate the pancreas. I kinda took it from there about learning my fat gram limit, but even then, things with animal fat tend to make me feel worse than things with vegetable or carbohydrate fat. It's a trial and error thing with me because the one thing that bothers me the least is sushi. High protein, low fat, but still animal fat. Go figure. Guest guest
Hello, I was read this post and saw in the original message about fats and Acid stimulating the pancreas. I know about watching fat but I have never heard about acid doing anything with the pancreas. Can anyone give me more info? Thanks, rob
Guest guest
Kimber, THANK YOU, THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!! I have been telling the folks for the past several years that animal fats are worse for me than vegetable or carbohydrates! It is good to hear someone else say the same thing. It has been a great deal of trial and error for me too! You sure do shop differently when you have to watch out for fat content, not just for a " don't want to gain weight " thing, but as a " Now can I eat this without going through the pain " thing!
