Guest guest
Hi , The pill size shouldn't be a problem as I take Claritin and have no problem. However, I would be worried about the pill causing me to gain weight. It did when I was on them many years ago when I was trying to avoid pregnancy. I don't have to worry about that now since my husband had a vasectomy. Your hormones are changing with the drop in weight and you will experience heavier and longer menstrual flows for awhile according to my surgeon. I am now 5 months post op and my periods are slowing down to about 5 days now. Prior to surgery I was irregular and when I had them, they were maybe 3 days. Immediately after surgery they were like 7 days and now they are about 5. It has something to do with the hormones being excreted during the weight loss. I remember Mike was talking about how males release testosterone hormones during weight loss and I believe our female bodies are doing something similar only we have to suffer from cramping and you know the rest. in Virginia 299/221/150 Lap RNY: 5/3/06 Birth Control Does anyone take birth control pills? I'm considering going back on some form of birth control to try to ease these periods. This month was my 3rd one since surgery. They've all be 7+ days and HEAVY!!! I can't take this anymore. I figured as small as the pills are they should be ok. I've swallowed larger pills w/ no problems. Then I thought about the patch or something similar. I just need something to help ease them a bit. Guest guest
I never gained when I was on them before. I don't really worry about that too much. I was on mine this month for about 10 days. It's been almost that long every month since. And the cramps are horrible. Bah! I sent an email to my surgeon's office to see what they say about it. Guest guest
That's what I worried about. Not being absorbed. I need to email Amity. She said she was using something new that was working well for her. I just can't remember what it was. I never had any problems w/ weight gain when I was on them before. Guest guest
Please stay away from the patch, my 17yr old daughter was on the patch for 3-4 months and she started having trouble with her blood pressure and she developed a heart murmur. Have you considered the shot, I think its called Depo. I think you take 1 injection every 3 months. Don't quote me on that though. good luck > > Does anyone take birth control pills? Guest guest
I'm on it... I've been able to continue to take it, even the night of my surgery. I just went back to the dr this week and she actually changed my pills to reduce the amount of estrogen. Since my surgery in May, my periods have gotten longer and heavier also. She said it was due to the weight loss and the extra estrogen my body was naturally releasing. Anyway, it will be another 2 weeks before I start the new pills, so it will be a while before I can tell you if it's helped! But good luck! I know it's not any fun!! > > Does anyone take birth control pills? I'm considering going back on > some form of birth control to try to ease these periods. This month was > my 3rd one since surgery. Guest guest
I've been on the pill for several years now. However, my sureon and primary told me to switch to something else for about 6 months to a year after surgery because the pill doesn't absorb as well. My primary perscribed the nuva ring. The other opitions they gave me were the patch and the shot. I guess it's a personal choice as to which you'd perfer. > > Does anyone take birth control pills? Guest guest
My daughter uses the nuva ring now, after the patchers then the pill, at first she didn't like it she had a period every 2 weeks but her doc said it was because her hormones were in a fizzy. It tool about 3months to get her regular. She has had it slip out 2 or 3x's, but she says its better than the others. hope this helps > > I've been on the pill for several years now. Guest guest
I just got the perscription for it...The dr's told me to wait til after surgery ( on tuesday) to start it because of the estrogen in it. I was advised against the patch right now because of blood clots, and because it's suppose to work best for those who are at a " normal " weight. With the shot, I've known a lot of people that have gained weight and gotten pregnant while on it. So hopefully the ring will work. I'll let you know !! > > I've been on the pill for several years now. Guest guest
I was on the pill for YEARS before surgery. I switched to Nuva-ring 2 months prior to surgery and it seemed to be working ok. My periods were much longer and heavier than when I was on the pill. I am now 1 month post-op and my period has been off and on for the entire month, sometimes 10 days in a row. I am considering switching to the shot just due to the fact that my body will be constantly changing over the next year or so and I am afraid the ring won't be enough to keep me stable. -Meghan , CA 350/320/160 -9/6/06- > > Does anyone take birth control pills?
