Guest guest
Mike, What type of protein are you using? I have given up on protein shakes for now, since I am having such a revulsion to the taste and smell of the whey. I also have a difficult time eating more than a few bites of chicken or lean deli meat in one meal. The sensation in my pouch makes me feel like I might vomit. You might have days when you only get half that in, but its better than making yourself sick and that means you get nothing.....yourself sick and that means y if you can handle the shakes then use them until you feel like your able to eat more. I still have shakes all the time and im working on five months out now........ Mike T
Guest guest
Hello everyone, I am a newbie to this WLS thing. I am waiting to here from Celebration Hospital in Orlando Florida to start all of my pre op appointments and such. I mostly lurk on this group for now as I don't have to many questions yet. I have been reading and doing a lot of research on my own. I did find something on the Internet that might be helpful. I have not tried it or know anything about it but it looked interesting._New Whey Liquid Protein IDS It is a vial of whey protein in liquid form. It has 25 grams of protein with no carbs, or fat in a 2.9 oz serving. Maybe this could help people get in their protein in a small amount for their tiny tummies. Guest guest
Hi Patty, I was the same way, NOTHING sounded good, I still go through that often. Sometimes I will just take in an extra drink or some beef jerky. All you can do is try your best, because like Mike said, it will take time to adjust and get used to the new everything. Nothing tasted the same to me either, it was like learning all over again with each food. I like it honestly... I do not desire the same things and I appreciate that about this surgery. I seem to just desire healthier foods now... I crave fruits and veggies before anything. It's great! blueeyes269_2000 wrote: I have a question that I've been dealing with the past few days. I know I'm not even getting 1/2 that. Can someone, anyone give me ideas, suggestions on what to do? With nothing smelling good or even seeming to be appealing to me, I am at a loss as to what to do. Guest guest
Hi Patty, Remember - EAT TO LIVE, NOT LIVE TO EAT! I can't remember where I heard that, but it probably came from this group. I've had days when nothing sounded or tasted good, but you have to eat anyways. You have to feed the body. The food is a fuel source. Without it, you'll run out of steam and your metabolism will shut down, therefore storing all food as fat for fuel and compromising your weight loss. If nothing sounds good, eat anyways - some kind of protein (yogurt, cottage cheese, meat, etc.) in Virginia 299/231/150 height: 5'8 " Lap RNY: 5/3/06 Eating question I have a question that I've been dealing with the past few days. Guest guest
Hi Debi, No offense intended, but I had both flavors and hated them. They were thick, smelled bad, and tasted bad. However, taste buds differ and maybe some of you will like them. in Virginia 299/231/150 height: 5'8 " Lap RNY: 5/3/06 Re: Eating question Hello everyone, I am a newbie to this WLS thing. Guest guest
Mike, How many calories? I'm now 360lbs (pre-op) and take in 3000+ (reason I'm 360). I have to think once I get surgery and reach an ideal weight, let’s say 200lbs; I should be able to take between 1000-1500 calories... I'm I right or just completely of the mark? Thanks, --- Mike wrote: > I usually wake up around 5:15am, eat and watch news > until about > 6:30am. Guest guest
I figure I'm probably taking in 400-500 per meal on average. Keep in mind the Healthy Choice I have for lunch are usually only 210-300 so I probably take more in for dinner. Then the snacks are maybe 200-300 (that's probably a bit high actually and why I usually try to stick to only one snack as a routine). That all works out to something between 1400-2100. 2000 calories is the federal RDA for what that's worth. Keep in mind I'm a large, Dutch 6' tall male too. When I was on the two week preparatory diet for the surgery I was taking in only 800 calories a day. Months before, trying to lose weight to be accepted for the surgery, I'd cut out chips, sweets, etc. but was taking in quite a lot still at I'd guess somewhere in the neighborhood of 3500. I would think that at my heaviest I was probably pulling down the 1400-2100 calories PER MEAL. Needless to say losing weight hasn't been a problem since I've cut back on calories to this extent. Obviously that's not all there is to it. I've increased my physical activity from going to the bathroom and walking to my car up to walking a few miles a day, bike riding and some slight weight lifting. Also WHAT I'm eating is much different too. I rarely ate fresh fruit, never really vegetables, and always excessive amounts of anything else (nutritional or otherwise).
