What are his measurements? That sounds like only a 2X and maybe a 44 "

waist. That's not really that big (compared to what I was anyway). I

agree that www.kingsizedirect.com is good. Let me know if you need a

coupon as I might have a few. You can get quite a lot of 2X stuff at

other online shops. Maybe there's a Casual Male Big and Tall in town?

They've got a website at http://www.casualmale.com

Casual Male is a big and tall company , name brand items and great

prices if you find an outlet store. I just gave away all my pants

and jeans from there,

Almost all of his weight is in his tummy. Probably is a 44 or so in

the pant. He tries to go to only " normal " stores and doesn't have a

lot of luck with that. In a shirt, 2X doesn't work well because it

ends up being too short and won't tuck in well. I know JC Penney has

3X, maybe he just won't look online. He complains about it every time

we get together. I'll check out casual male. He's lazy so maybe if I

find something for him, he'll go with it.

When we were in high school, he was so scrawny a good breeze might

have blown him away. It is sad because he wants to date, but won't get

out there. He also has a pilot's license and wants to do gliding, but

they have weight limitations. I hope that my surgery will be

successful and encourage him to do something. His brother is in the

same boat, but has pretty bad diabetes. His blood sugar was over 600

when he was diagnosed. But he is the one who told me Carnie 's

weight loss was " fake " . Not the most educated person. Proably why he

is 34, still trying to get through college, and living (for free) with

his brother.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I " was " a tall too. I still think I'm pretty tall but now that my

stomach has come back down I don't really need tall shirts anymore.

I've purchased a lot of 3XLT stuff from kingsizedirect.com and I have

quite a lot of Meijer 3X shirts which I think must be actually 3XLT

shirts. If not then they shirt fit well during my 3XLT days. I'm now

wearing 2X Meijer shirts though. So if this guy would like about 8 or

so polo shirts that are in various states of having been used I can

sell them to him cheap cheap cheap. In fact I might just take a

recoup on the shipping cost just to get them out of the house.

If he's a 2XLT maybe try Meijer for that as they do have some small

selection and they're super cheap.

I'm about a 46/44 in the pants so I'll keep those.

600 blood sugar? That's amazing. My PCP used to give me major grief

at 123.

Education isn't the end all for everyone. I've got four degrees and

I'm not sure I'm fully utilizing them. 34 isn't really that old for

college either even undergraduate.

Good luck to him and you,

Four degrees??!!! That's amazing! I didn't mean to come across as down

on him for his age. It took me 6 years to get my BS and 6 more to get

my PhD and that was going straight through. He is going back so that's

not it. I just get frustrated because Bill got him a job making over

$15 per hour and his only bill is his tuition and car/insurance

payment. He hardly contributes to the household and even let's Bill

pick up the tab at dinner a lot. It's not my business, but Bill won't

say anything to him and then complains to me. I just don't like seeing

it so I had a little mini vent......and now a more major vent ;-)

This is a slightly personal question so tell me to bugger off if you

want? Obviously, anyone else can chime in as well.......

When you got your degrees were you at your heavy stage or thinner? I

was over 100 pounds lighter in grad school (Texas) and when I started

my job at UofM. At first I was more mentally focussed and even went on

a whim and got Oracle and Sun Solaris certified. That was 8-10 exams

in 6 months that I studied for and passed. Now, I am so mentally lazy

that I hardly want to read a book. I go buy tons and they just sit

there. It makes work in a research lab challenging sometimes. I don't

know if it is the weight, possibly depression, or something else. I

found I am Vit D deficient, but I don't think that is a symptom. They

did other labs and didn't mention other deficiencies. I was just

wondering if it is more just lack of energy and focus due to being so

overweight.

Interesting question and one I pondered about myself. I think part of the

reason I got overweight in the first place was because I was never good enough

in the eyes of my parents. So I sought to overachieve. By the time I finished

my third degree I had gained 90#. My eating was stress driven, but the stress

was achievement driven. By the time I got my DBA in Orgn Behavior (you'd think

I would have learned a little by then) I was close to 400#. Followed that with

so many certifications including CNE, MCSE, CPA, CPIM and a few more....you get

the idea. I am starting back in a PhD program in Operations Research and I am

wondering why. I get bored easily and retirement isn't my thing. I drive a

school bus and also am adjunct faculty at a local university, so it isn't like I

have nothing to do. But like you, I really don't even want to pick up a book

anymore. My parents are now dead, so maybe I don't feel the need to achieve for

THEM anymore.

I moved here to take a job at UofM in a proteomics research lab (my

PhD is in Chemistry). I'd become a computer nerd during grad school

and work was slow for a while, so I did the computer certifications

just for the heck of it because I was bored. Now, when I am bored, I

just surf the web. I don't know why I don't do something more

constructive.

My parents never pushed me beyond wanting me to do my best, even if

that had been C's (which thankfully they weren't). Even though, I

always tried not to disappoint my mother, that would have been worse

than anything for me back then.

I think that is another reason I really want to get the surgery

done.....not because she is disappointed in me, but because she is

really worried about me and my health. It is mostly fine now, but

could go downhill in a heartbeat at my weight. My stepfather passed

away last October and I want to make sure that she sees me getting

healthier and happier so she'll have that burden off of her shoulders.

I was 220-240 during my first degree in the late 80s/early 90s. I

worked a very physical job loading/unloading for UPS too. I drank a

lot of beer and ate crap too. I received a very average to below

average GPA.

My last three degrees were from 2000-2005. I was between 350-500lbs

during that time. I had high honors for one and four point GPAs for

the other two. Maybe being heavy aides in intelligence? Heh, doubt it.

A PhD is very impressive. My father has one and has taught for 30+

years. He's semi-retired now. His in Political Science, my degrees

are in business and IT. What was your field of study?

I'm studying now for a PMP and CISSP certification this year. I think

I'm going to fill up with certifications for a few years because my

company is not willing to pay for full degrees for me anymore. I'm

still floating the idea of a Jurist Doctorate with them but they sort

of laugh.

I wasn't really mentally lazy while I had a set of goals but I guess

that is becoming the case in the last year since I was getting so

lazy that I wouldn't even create my own goals let alone work towards

them.

I wouldn't be a bit surprised to find out that being overweight

affects concentration and focus mentally. The hormones involved have

a great deal of affect on mood and, of course, your self-image

probably affects your ability to concentrate to some extent.

I know I'm able to concentrate more intently now that I'm off bipolar

medication and comfortable knowing I've got an end of day release

planned by walking or in another way exercising.
