Guest guest
Hi Mike I was going to go to spectrum but they want over 699 before have this surgery for things my insurance will cover if they would bill but apparently they dont bill for dietician visits and psych visit apparently. Because you have to pay for them. I called hurley medical in flint and Dr. Wagner is who I will be seeing Oct. 12th. consultation visit. They told me nothing is out of pocket since I have medicare A & B and BCBS medigap policies. Can you tell what and where you had yours? Also what kinds of foods before, after surgery you were to have. I have a problem, I am allergic to nutrasweet and aspertame. Dont like splenda (for drinks stuff) but will have to abide by it no sugar is the order. Can you give me tips of what you could have before and after surgery and how long it was till you were ok etc. Thanks a bunch I want to have the lap bypass. Guest guest
, I had my surgery at MMPC (http://www.mmpc.com/doctor/specialty/64/Grand%20Rapids). My insurance was through Priority. I had to pay about $1000 for my portion of the surgery and maybe $400 for other stuff or special food. I managed to run all that through my flexible benefits so I've saved maybe 30% on that. MMPC has " the product " which is pretty good stuff. They require you to use it for two weeks before surgery @ 800 calories a day. That was rough the first few days but not so bad after a week. The chili is fantastic and so is the spaghetti, especially for dry pouches mixed with hot water. I didn't like the fruit drink mixes or the gelatin. They have about 8 great protein bars in the products too. After surgery I had to drink so pre made shakes which were delicious for two days, bearable for one or two more and really boring and starting to be nasty after that. I was trying cottage cheese after a week and half to get away from the shakes. I'm not sure if they're sweetened with anything artificial. You could call and ask them though. Being allergic to NutraSweet/aspartame would really suck. I love that stuff, and Splenda. Try Crystal Lite Fruit Punch, it's awesome. I like the lemonade and raspberry lemonade. I've never really cared for sugar sweetened drinks. They've always seemed to strong to me. Now sweet food is a different story and I really have to watch that sort of stuff now even after surgery. Like I said I was having soft food at a week and a half for a bit. I really mashed it down with my tongue. I was spending 45-60 minutes eating VERY little until about 3.5 weeks when I tried some more solid foods like chicken and tuna salad. At four weeks the dietician was asking me if I'd tried any sugary or fat stuff. I was curious and said no because I didn't want to dump. She said that many people try it anyway to see what happens. Sounds a bit weird to me, I'll just take their word for it. At three months I was told we could eat anything we want. I was told that's actually bad/dangerous because even with dumping still possible it means we can fall of the wagon as it were. They wanted us to stop taking in any liquids with calories. That means no more milk, sugary juices, non chunky soups, protein shakes, etc. The reason for this was given that they don't fill you up well being liquids and you still get the calories. Now I eat chili, tuna, a healthy choice entrée everyday at lunch (200-220 calories, 5-7g fat, 13-18g protein). I usually don't have a problem getting in 70g of protein. Oh we were also told to limit our eating to 20-30 minutes so we don't get into grazing. They said three meals and one or two snacks. I usually only have one, fresh fruit, at around 9am (I eat breakfast around 5am) and then lunch at noon or so and dinner at 5-7pm. I had lap RNY. It was painful when I first woke up in the holding/recovery room but I was groggy. After that I had the " pain button " and then liquid pain meds which I only took for a few more days. I was " suffering " from a great deal of energy and stamina within four days so much so that two weeks from the day of surgery I had to return back to work because I was SO BORED/RESTLESS. I'm now able to walk more than 5 miles a day without even noticing it during or a few hours after the walk. I always bring home a doggy bag or split meals when out saving me a bundle and I feel better about myself not eating so much and still feeling hungry like I used to. I've lost about 170lbs since what I think was my heaviest though it might be more and over 120 since the day of surgery and over 25lbs since the start of the fasting/product diet which is what my doctor's office goes off for statistics. While I really like the new life I have now it's seeing how it affects my children and friends/co-workers that has really inspired me. They all seem to enjoy hanging out with me more and, of course, walking/exercising with me. My kids seem to even be listening/joining me in eating healthy. That's weird, me giving health advice and guidance.
