Guest guest
Hi everyone, I don't know if anyone remembers me-my new member info was posted about a week ago, but nobody acknowledged it, so maybe there was a problem with it. Anyway, I just found out I've been approved. My date for surgery is Aug. 21. This Monday. I started seeing all the drs. and getting the paperwork on May 3,2006, So it took about 3 1/2 months. Not bad. I still didn't lose the 10 lbs I was supposed to before surgery, so they put me on the liquid diet and the dr. said to just lose as much as I can. My husband will be taking my 14 year old and my 9 year old to Calif. to visit his family Thursday, so I'll just be home with my 19 year old. I'm so glad because now I won't be have to smell the good foods cooking when I get home. They're coming home the 27th of August so I should be almost back to normal by then, right? Does anyone have any tips on what I should bring to the hospital with me? Donna

Guest guest
LOL, me too. I fell asleep changing tv channels, and I would wake up for a few seconds and find that I had left it on the Food Network! LOL! My other favorite channel to fall asleep on was static. All I needed was clothes to go home in. I had a book, but I would nod off as soon as I was in bed. If I wasn't walking, I was sleeping. The hospital provided what I needed... mouth swabs dipped in non alcoholic mouth wash.... ahhhhh Dana In a message dated 8/16/2006 7:14:41 PM Pacific Standard Time, tune1552@... writes: Amen, I brought a new book and my ipod......I fell asleep just trying to turn the channel on the tv......I never used any of that stuff, I just slept.... Guest guest
Hi Donna, There are so many posts that sometimes some are overlooked. If you do not get a response, repost your comment/question. Congrats on being approved! You'll be joining us on the losing side very soon. As for the recovery, some people have recovered and are back to some " normal " activities within a week. However, there are many others who take a little longer to recover. It differs from individual to the next. As for what you should take to the hospital, it depends on what the hospital will provide and how long you will be there. Most everything I needed was provided. If you will be there several days, I suggest taking some reading material, shampoo/conditioner, toothbrush and toothpaste, socks, your own pajamas and underwear, etc. I was allowed to wear my own pajama bottoms. I hated wearing only the hospital gown. The socks provided had grippers on the bottom, but I was cold all of the time and liked having two layers. That is all I can think of right now. I'm sure others will have other ideas for you. in Virginia 299/239/150 Lap RNY: 5/3/06 I've been approved Hi everyone, I don't know if anyone remembers me-my new member info was posted about a week ago, but nobody acknowledged it, so maybe there was a problem with it. Guest guest
Congrats on the surgery date! Do you have apnea and use a CPAP? If so, you would need it. Some people say they took things like books, music players, etc and never used them. You'll be mostly sleeping, drinking, and walking while you are there. Typical toiletries would be good. I don't know if they'll let you wear your own night clothes or will keep you in their lovely gown or not. > > Hi everyone, > I don't know if anyone remembers me-my new member info was posted > about a week ago, but nobody acknowledged it, so maybe there was a > problem with it. Guest guest
I forgot to mention..... Make sure you have the things you'll need after the surgery at home. If your post-op diet is like many, you'll be on clear liquids for a few days. That is typically broth, SF jello, SF popsicles, etc. You'll need to drink lots of water, so if you don't like plain water, stock up on the flavored ones. Then many move on to " full " liquids or pureed foods. That would be soups that have been blended to remove solids, cottage cheese, refried beans, baby food, pureed meats, etc. If you are going to be on protein shakes, make sure you have that too. Find out what vitamins your doctor wants you to take so they will be on hand. If you are on medications, ask your surgeon if you are going to still be able to take them and how you are suppposed to take them. > > Hi everyone, > I don't know if anyone remembers me-my new member info was posted > about a week ago, but nobody acknowledged it, so maybe there was a > problem with it.
