Guest guest
They only give me dilaudin when I'm in the ER, it sure does the job though, I felt great for a few hours, now I'm back to chronic pain. I sure wish I could get some Dilaudin to go. Maybe If I complain enough someone will help me. I can't imagine that the pain of cancer is worse; If it is then I don't think I want to live that long. Guest guest
Dear Heidi; Wow, if anybody was safe, I thought it was you, given the re: you have with your doc... sorry to hear about that... I also hope that you're doing well now>> I surly do, Ma'am. Also, tell us what you feel about the Dilaudid. I'd be very interested in how you find it. I was on tow or three mild narcotics which did ABSOLUTELY nothing, I mean less than a handful of Ibuprofen... they finally got put on Oxycontin: " kind of " ; then Methadone, no no no .... I was told that I ALWAYS acted like I was whacked out on drugs, and I don't want to go through like like that, and if I DID, the med would sure as heck have to work a WHOLE lot better than the Methadone did. Then, back on Oxycontin, and " kind of " ... Now I'm on Morphine, and it makes a good dent. I still have pain, but this helps it, so I'm not ready to ask for anymore yet. I figure it I have pain that I can live with, I'm okay.... I don't think anything is going to " take it away " , or I'm going to be too drugged... at least that's what I'm gathering here. But I've heard good things about Dilaudid also, and I wonder if there are differences between how it's prescribed and all of the others, if it works better for you, if you've tried some of those I have mentioned, etc. Before long we're going to build a collective " top ten " for the most people; granted, we ARE all different, but surely there are some " odds " that would play through if we studied it enough. What do the books say... I can't remember, but as I recall, it's something that most docs wouldn't even consider prescribing for CP any longer... that's how " dated " some of the literature is. Time for a rewrite, let's get this study started. I'll pass this clipboard around.... Everybody write your name, LEGIBLY PONCHO, last then first, blah blah blah. Second column, pain med of choice, then second, etc. Thanks for volunteering to get us started off next Heidi. Terry in KC << the med > is Dilaudid, > which is a morphine derivative of some kind. Guest guest
Dilaudid (other name)hydromorphone HCl This medication is used to treat moderate to severe pain. It acts on the brain to increase the ability to tolerate pain. 4 mg every 4 to 6 hours as required. Rectal suppositories (3 mg) are long-lasting and are especially useful at night. The oral liquid may be diluted in fruit juice or other beverage if desired. Tablet, Liquid, Suppository Anyone with increased pressure in the head, status asthmaticus (severe episode of asthma), or pulmonary edema (fluid in the lungs) should not use this medication. Anyone allergic to hydromorphone or any of the ingredients should not use this product. The most common side effects are nausea, vomiting, dizziness, drowsiness, loss of appetite and constipation. May be habit-forming. Hydromorphone is a narcotic with risk for addiction similar to that of morphine and for this reason the same precautions should be taken as with morphine. Psychic dependence, physical dependence, and tolerance may develop upon repeated administration. Withdrawal effects occur in those people who have been physically dependent on the drug and who stop taking the drug suddenly. Drug Interactions : Hydromorphone can interact with a number of different drugs. Be sure to tell any health professional involved in your care of all the drugs you are taking, including those that can be bought without a prescription. Asthma and Other Respiratory Conditions: Hydromorphone should be used with extreme caution in people having an acute asthmatic attack, those with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (chronic bronchitis, emphysema) or many other diseases of breathing. Occupational Hazards: Hydromorphone may impair the mental and/or physical abilities required for the performance of potentially hazardous tasks such as driving a car or operating machinery. Use appropriate caution. Hydromorphone, like other narcotics, may produce dizziness upon moving from a sitting or lying to a standing position. Pregnancy: Hydromorphone should be used by pregnant women only when clearly needed. Infants born to mothers physically dependent on hydromorphone will also be physically dependent and may have respiratory difficulties and withdrawal symptoms. Breastfeeding: Hydromorphone appears in the milk of nursing mothers receiving the drug and as a general rule, mothers should not nurse while on this drug. As with any narcotic analgesic agent, the usual precautions should be observed and the possibility of respiratory depression should be kept in mind. Children: Hydromorphone suppositories are not recommended for use in children. --- Roth wrote: > Heidi - don't know the answers to your questions but > did want you to know > someone was listening and sympathizing.
