How wonderful that you’ll be on TV – way to go girl friend!!!!! Where are you (in Texas yet?) what TV station will you be on?

Here are a few facts –

Every 12 minutes another name is added to the transplant list.

“On average†18 people died every day – waiting.

118 people are added to the list every day.

Call your local OPO, they will have any and all facts

Barb,

I will be on our local TV station here in Watertown NY...WWNY EARLY Thursday a.m. I've been using some of the organ donation websites to get my talking points. I have a friend joining me that wants to plug the bone marrow donor registry. She just paid a visit to a child her husband donated bone marrow to 7 years ago....how awesome is that! So she is passionate about that side of donating.

We will be headed to Texas when my husband returns from Afghanistan in March. Not sure exactly when, but I'll let you know.

Thanks for all your help. Just hope my thick southern accent doesn't get in the way of the message, the local folks can hardly understand what I'm saying.

Good for you- to go on TV and talk about organ donation!!!!!

When I have talked to people about the need to sign up with a donor registry, such as Gift Of Life, they said they had signed their drivers license, and that was enough, but it isn't. If there is an accident, a driver's license might not make it to an ER and a victim's wishes might not be honored. When you sign up to be a donor, everything can be on line and easily assessable for an organ procurement team.

I found most people want to "recycle themselves", and want the information on how to do it.

Dear ,You can get a lot of facts about transplants from Redfords site:www.jrifilms.orgThank you for promoting organ donor awareness, you can also sign up to be a donor through our PSC Partners Seeking a Cure web site.www.pscpartners.orgIt might help to mention that autoimmune liver diseases effect all ages including children. Too many people connect liver disease and the need for transplantation to alcohol and hepatitis. ie Mickey Mantle, Larry Hagman.  I sent you the Redford site because he had his transplant due to PSC at a young age.I was guilty of not being a donor until I was educated about other liver diseases and the numbers who die while awaiting a transplant no matter the organ.I now encourage everyone I know to become a donor by passing on what I have learned.Good luck,LeeDear Friends,Can't believe I'm posting for the second time in less than 24 hours! Here's the deal. This Thursday I'm appearing on our local TV station to make a plug for being an organ donor. I'll only have 3 minutes. Help me come up with some talking points that will get people's attention in that short of time.I have websites to post on the screen, but just some critical facts to get their attention. I know about how many people die per day waiting for a transplant, but if you are a donor on the average how many people receive the gift? I know I've read that number somewhere but can't find it.Thanks again for any help. Terry__._
