Do you eat meat? Try having a couple slices of turkey or chicken in

the evening.

Some folks find their reflux is triggered by fats or starches. Mine

is triggered by sugar/refined starch. If you eat a lot of GF breads,

most of them are chock full of refined starches.

My own personal remedy? 4% milkfat cottage cheese (large curd--taste/

texture preference). I also use whole milk or cream instead of skim

(lower fat milks have more lactose, a milk *sugar*). Sometimes, a

slice of turkey will help, now that I eat meat again.

If you have extended problems (more than a couple weeks), see your

doctor. Some folks need a course of meds like Prilosec. My reflux

is constant, so I need meds. With the meds, I still need to avoid

starch/sugar, because the GERD will still act up--the meds barely

control it.

I also find that a protein drink (no sugar) helps. I make mine with

whey protein and coconut or nut milk. Sometimes I add wholefat

yogurt. When the reflux isn't being naughty, I add frozen berries.

I also had it for the first time while pregnant, and it went away afterwards. When I went back on gluten for my tests, I had heartburn all the time. It stopped as soon as I went GF again.

Does anyone have/had trouble with acid reflux? I have never had it or heartburn or anything like that except for when I got pregnant. Then I had it every night. Just the last couple of days I have had it and it's so horrible. I don't how people can deal with that all of the time. I constantly feel like I am going to throw up. Anyway, I was wondering if I somehow got glutened and it's affecting me like that for some reason or what. I am pretty positive I am not pregnant, so that's ruled out. Weird??? Rhiannon

I was starting to have reflux frequently the months before going gf. It wasn't the burning type, but rather the kind that feels like a lump under my sterum and air coming up when I tried to fall asleep at night. It's not been a problem since gf, but the last time I accidently got gluten, the problem was back. Trudy Verzosa wrote: I also had it for the first time while pregnant, and it went away afterwards. Rhiannon, Like your name, btw. YES I had reflux really bad before I was diagnosed. I didn't even realize that is what it was, but the GI said that my esophagus was getting eatten away and I had to take a prescription to heal it and prevent further reflux. I took something for about 3 months, then the insurance company refused to pay for it, so I started taking over the counter, Tagiment, I think. I am completely off all meds for that now, and feeling great. You might want to take something over the counter for at least a month or two to heal, then staying gf should keep it from coming back. I am not a doctor, and I don't play one on tv, so this is just my "been there done that" advise! Hope you feel better soon!Sonja Message: 10 Date: Tue, 31 Jan 2006 02:30:41 -0000From: "Rhiannon"

Definitely not weird, likely!

I used to have TERRIBLE trouble with reflux, (burping, PAINFUL heartburn and late night gas bubbles, lump in my sternum, as well as flatulence.) I NEVER related it to a food allergy or anything. Everyone (health care workers) always said it was related to being overweight...(I am soooooo sick of people blaming everything on excess weight!!) However, I weight the SAME as I have for a long time, yet after going GF, those symptoms are GONE. I don have them when I get glutened though. That is one of the BIG signs to me! I often burp within minutes of eating something with some sort of hidden gluten!...and if I can, I go check a label...and find I have missed something very minor...but enough for me to react! I also RARELY have gas...I used to have it constantly! (sooooo glad that is gone!) But if I have it now, it is often related to something being cross contaminated. These symptoms have been a HUGE indicator for me...and I am learning because of paying attention to them!
