We do these streches for our 16 month old son. They showed us at

cranial tech not to put your had on the cheek but to put in more on

the childs head. Cranial Tech told us that a firm surface was

best. I will lean right over and put my chest on his chest and

stomach and wrap his legs around me. You are stronger than your

child but you just have to be forcefull. You won't hurt him. If

you are worried about hurting your child I would double check with

ct and get them to show you the streches again. I noticed that they

really pushed his head down alot further than I was. I needed to be

more forceful. We sometimes will tickle him between stretches. I

don't know if that would work for a 5 month old though. We also

say " all done! " and " Good Boy! " . I think the main thing to remember

is that these streches are really important. I think that you

should do them as much as cranial tech tells you to whether he cries

through the whole thing or not.

Audrey,

Ask at CT for them to show you some different ways of doing the

stretches. Once you see someone else do it, it makes you feel better.

There are also different ways to achieve the same stretch, so you can

try them and see what works best for you.

There are lots of creative ways to stretch. My favorite is using my

head/cheeck against hers to gently stretch her while kissing her. IT

turns into a game and she giggles happily while she's being

stretched.

Also, try holding her facing forward while walking around the house

so that your arm is stretching her. I think there's some photos of

this pose in the photo section of this group.

It does get a lot easier as your child and you get used to doing

them. They are sooo important. Just try to do a lot of times per

day - even if you only get a few minutes in at a time.

Good luck!
