Guest guest
My son will not position his head any other way..I've tried all different repositioning techniques. I'm feeling Guilty as can be right now..I don't know what to do...If I carry him around all day that helps, but my back is killing me. Were waiting for our 2nd appt. at Cranial Tech. for the band, but will that help w/ the Tort., too? Any suggestions would be helpful..I can't sleep at night because I look at the monitor constantly and then feel horrible when he turns the neck the other way.. Guest guest
Hi, No, a band won't help with tort. Physical therapy will correct torticollis. Is your baby receiving physical therapy? Are you doing stretches with him? http://www.pedisurg.com/PtEduc/Torticollis.htm If your baby isn't in PT, you should ask your pediatrician for a referral (if you need one)to see on. The tort needs to be resolved or you face regression once your son is out of his band. When is your next appt at CT? Ask your ortho to show you how to stretch your baby. Guest guest
Beverly, Don't feel bad at all. Repositioning a baby with tort is nearly impossible, you have been so brave to fight so hard. If it takes a band to correct the plagio then so be it. I am sure by now after being on this board you see that the babies are no worse for wear. As far as the tort goes, the only thing that will help it is stretching and tummy time, if that is not doing enough it's time to bring in a physical therapist. You can look into your local Early Intervention program for children birth to three for help. You need to get a handle on the tort, so that the band can do it's job correctly aside from the fact that it can lead to developmental delays. It is not failing if you need a professional to help...tort is a mean, nasty condition that doesn't like to go away. Good Luck and remeber we are here to support you. Guest guest
I'm sorry to hear you are having such a strugle. Our son has torticollis and he was so hard to reposition. He would not change postions no matter what. He learned to roll over really early because we would put a blanket under him to put him on his prominent side and he would want his neck turned the other way so bad that he would just roll right over. How old is your son? Try not to feel too guilty nobody can carry a baby around all day. The band won't help with the tort but with the band on your son won't have that comfortable flat spot to lay on anymore so he will be more free to move his head side to side when he is laying on his back. Guest guest
Has his dr diagnosed tort? Is he in PT? If you are doing all of this repo and can't get him to turn his head it sounds like tort. Get him into the dr if he hasn't diagnosed it. Ask for PT. If he won't write the RX then find your local early intervention service and call them for an eval. We have some neck exercises listed under tort in the files section. The band will not help the tort. However, if his position is due to flatness severity, i.e. just to easy to lay on that side, then the band may help. PT and lots of neck stretches are needed to correct tort. na, DOC Grad X2 Kiersten, DOC Band 1/10/06, Tort www.thefilyaws.com/plagio/plagio.html > > My son will not position his head any other way..I've tried all > different repositioning techniques.
