So I have said I will probably go for it in the new year. But 2 things puzzle me. 1. As this disease affects the bile ducts both inside & outside the liver do they transplant all these external bile ducts as well? If so how many are there eg is it 2 or 100? Presumably that is no easy thing. 2. I understand that donors can be heartbeating (which was normal) and increasingly non heart beating. I have always had this slightly disturbing thought - what on earth is a heart beating donor? eg are they dead when the liver is taken out??!! On the other hand if u get a non heart beating liver are u getting second best, and if you have time should you hold out for the former? Apologies if these have been covered many times but I have either missed them or forgotten. (My memory is like a sieve!)
