Feedback??? Amy, I have never had my children in daycare and I hope that I never will have to, but I know that if I ever did... that if they didn't do what I told them to with my children I would find another caregiver, I am sure it is tough on them to not be able to calm him down but your wish are your wishes right? I am sorry to hear he is having a hard time it is tough to have to leave babies. ; ( Rhonda <A HREF= " http://www.alladvantage.com/go.asp?refid=GVA469 " >Need some money? Guest guest
Yup I agree. If they can't respect your wishes (I can't believe she walked out of the room) then it's time to find another one. Especially since he isn't settling down for them. Michele My sons began daycare this week after being at home for seven monthsbecause my babysitter quit. Ryker (my 7 month old nursling) has criednonstop (and I mean that) every day, all day. The only time he stops iswhen I come in to feed him. When he was at home, I came about everythree hours or just waited for the sitter to call me. Now, I am going tohim every two hours simply so he can stop crying for awhile. He won'teven nap for them, so I have been going to him during my lunch hour andletting him nurse himself to sleep. Today, when I brought him some coughmedicine and put him down on the changing table there, he began cryingagain and shaking. I have never seen my baby act this way.Anyway, the reason I am telling you all this is because of aconversation the owner had with me at lunch time. When I called thedaycare to enroll the boys, I made it very clear that Ryker is a breastbaby who has no bottles or pacifiers. He also isn't interested in solidsyet. She said that was not a problem, so I enrolled. Today, she told me that she wasn't sure if Ryker was going to eversettle down and that perhaps my frequent visits were part of theproblem. She told me that since this is the weekend, she wanted me tothink about bringing him a bottle and cereal/other foods so thecaregiver can bond with him.I told her that I don't plan to use bottles and that I would put him ona cup eventually. The other provider said that she didn't think a 7month old could drink out of a cup and I disagreed. At that point, shewalked out of the room.I think it is time to find another sitter. Guest guest
My has been playing with a cup since about 4 or 5 months old - actually drinking from it since about 6 months. I don't know that much about the whole daycare stuff but I'd be annoyed with their attitude in general! Doesn't seem like what YOU want is all that important? I'm sure it's hard on them to not be able to calm him down but it's only been a week - is that long enough to let him get adjusted?? --- amymichael@... wrote: > My sons began daycare this week after being at home for seven months > because my babysitter quit. Feedback??? Amy W. >> Amy, My heart really goes out to you. What a hard decision to have to make in the first place and then be faced with such issues. I would definitely follow Ryker's clues--there's a reason he doesn't like it there.....I don't mean that it's an abusive place or anything like that, he just isn't feeling secure there. In my opinion I think I would really try to find an alternative sitter for him. Especially since they are trying to push you into doing some things you are just not ready to do (solids, etc)......Good luck, I know it must be difficult to deal with. Guest guest
Ryker is certainly old enough to drink from a cup, and the caretaker could bond with him by singing, playing games, rocking, carrying him in a sling, etc. Food is an American hang-up, and they need to be more flexible. If they can't agree to try what you would prefer--whether that be food or something else, then you should probably find a different sitter. I agree that Ryker may be dependent on you for calming--thus agreeing with the owner that your visits may be part of the problem, Amy, but I disagree that her solution is the only way to go. Follow your instinct on this. Sorry for the delay in answering, Amy Lynn mother to 1-25-98 and 2-10-
