Guest guest
Please tell me this gets easier.... n is scheduled to get her Starband next Wednesday. My stomach has been in knots since last Wednesday when she was casted. I am just dreading everything about this and just wishing the next 5 months away-- -which is so wrong! Although lurking here takes away that " I'm so alone in this drama " feeling, reading about abrasions, lack of sleep, sweating...it all makes me worry so much about the road we have ahead of us. I'm fearful of how people will react and find myself doing stupid stuff like buying her a bunch of cute new clothes to compensate for the ugly helmet. Basically, I feel just plain sorry for myself and n. PLEASE tell me this gets better. I'm totally freaking out. ~Abby (n, 8.5 months)

Guest guest
Yes yes yes... it does get easier/better. I completely understand what you are feeling right now. I was very anxious/nervous about getting 's band. I was almost in tears while driving to the appt for her fitting. But, honestly, looking back on it now... it was not NEARLY as bad as you might think. As far as problems... (abrasions, sleeping issues, sweating etc), don't get yourself too worked up about all of that because you just have to take it one day at a time and these things don't happen to every baby. In the very beginning, you will possibly have to get a few adjustments to make the band fit properly on her. Yes, she possibly will sweat in the beginning, but once she gets used to it she should be fine. My Daughter, , accepted her band immediately (didn't fuss with it hardly at all), she never had any sores, abrasions, irritation (other than red spots from growth), she played happily and slept the same as before (even on the first night sleeping in the band). Try too to keep in mind that you are doing a great thing for her by fixing her plagio when you can. When we would go out and people would look at in her band... I wouldbe PROUD of what I was doing for her. And I KNOW that she will be happy when she is older and I explain it to her. n will be thankful to you too! Hang in there and let us know how the fitting goes. Guest guest
Hello there! Your message really truck a chord with me and I wanted to write and let you know that everything gets so much easier. like you, I had all the same fears/feelings and to tell you the truth none have come true. My 10 month old daughter received her Starband last week and she goes for her first adjustment tomorrow. To be honest, it has not really even seemed like a transition. No issues with her adjusting to it, no sores, hardly any sweating, she looks super cute (it is decorated with the sunflower transfer) and I could care less what people think on outings. What really has made it easy for us, that in less that 5 days in her band, we have noticed rounding of her forehead, sides of the head and back. it is really UNBELIEVABLE and we are so happy!!!! it really reinforces the fact we made the right decision. Anyway hang in there. If you are anything like me you will get your worries out preband and the rest will be smooth sailing. Take care in the mean time, Krista Mom to nna(STARband end of Feb 06) Alberta, Canada > > Please tell me this gets easier.... > > n is scheduled to get her Starband next Wednesday. Guest guest
Abby, You can feel sorry for yourself for a little while, then you have to adjust your attitude to a positive on the band. Babies feed off your vibes and if they are negative it will make her feel bad. You are doing the right thing for your baby and you know that or you wouldn't have gone through the casting. Now stop feeling sorry for yourself and feel proud of yourself for caring about your little girl enough to get her the treatment she needs. You will feel so much better when you se that head start to round out,I promise. CAROLG > > Please tell me this gets easier.... > > n is scheduled to get her Starband next Wednesday.
