TK--- Have you tested your thyroid appropriately ? And are you

supporting it along with your adrenals ?

hi everyone,

i have been experiencing severe adrenal fatigue for the past 6 months

or so. my cortisol saliva test was low, despite being on 15mg

cortisol/day. my md raised it to 25mg/day without relief.

i was extremely weak, barely able to function. she then increased it

10/mg more each day. i am now up to 80mg/day (for the past 3 days i

havent increased it, i would like to, but i am worried about this high

dose) i am feeling better, far from normal, but able to do more.

i am awaiting arrival of wm jeffries book-safe uses of cortisol.

my questions are--

has anyone taken this high a dose, and over what period of time?

is it safe to increase it any further?

thanks in advance. dawn.

I am aware of some doctors who start their patients on a higher dose

like this at first and then when the patient feels good taper down to

a maintenance dose.

Initially I was taking 20 mg per day. At that dose I was sleeping

most of the time.

I was at 30 mg per day for several years. During those years I didn't

gain weight and I had tests that showed that I was not losing bone

(two big things people are concerned about). I usually double the

cortef for stress and infection for at least 3 days and then gradually

decrease back down to maintenance dose.

I went up to 40 mg for almost a year and am now at 60 mg (this may be

temporary, I'm not sure). I have gained some weight at this dose. I

haven't had the bone test lately, but I'm not concerned because it was

ok the last two times I had it.

I wear a medicalert bracelet. I also have a cortisol injection at home.

I have taken as much as 180 mg for one day of extreme stress, but then

decrease the dose back to maintenance dose.

The precautions are discussed in Andy's Amalgam Illness book.

I feel comfortable because I have the support of my doctor, and the

other doctors in his clinic. They know that I will be there to see

them if I have problems. I wouldn't want to do this alone. Nor would

I want to ever go back to life without cortef.

Has your doctor considered replacing thyroid hormone as well as

cortef? See pages 115-118 of Amalgam Illness.

Also read the adrenal section (p 118-122), hypoglycemia (p 111-112),

and the part about magnesium and potassium (p 98-100).

I have had to read these pages over and over again.
