a question for those post transplant

Hello All -

Don't think for a minute because i'm keeping my big mouth shut that I'm not

reading everyday and keeping up on everybody's news........

So, Mike went for a check up in Halifax today, liver functions are fabulous,

I think I mentioned before that his cholesterol was up, but when they

discontinued his sirolimus it returned to normal levels....

despite this, the Doc still wants him taking lipid lowering drugs, stating

that even though his numbers are normal, he is a post transplant patient

which makes him anything but normal, and it is necessary he take them -

We had previously refused taking them because of side effects and all

documentation that I'm researching is telling me that the drug companies

won't stop till almost everybody is sucking these pills back, some

unnessarily -

so, today we get there and Mr. Personality himself - trust me, when I say

this guy has the personality of a coat hanger, i'm not kidding -

he sits down tells us Mike's liver functions are great, then proceeds to

basically blast Mike, saying " we took you off sirolimus because you, Mr.

Blakeney refused to take lipid lowering medication " - thank God, I wasn't

premenstrual or they'd still be trying to get me off his back like a flying

squirrell -

then he point blank looked at Mike and said " you will die of a heart attack,

stroke or renal failure, it's what kills most post transplant patients and

if you continue to refuse this medication, I can almost guarantee it "

HELLO?

so I asked him 'which one would YOU take if your cholesterol was normal and

somebody was trying to get you to take this potential

poison? " ....................I saw a smirk cross the nurses face, but he did

answer me with lipitrol (sp?) - anyway, I told him we'd discuss it and

thanked him for the cheery future outlook and we left....

we WILL NOT see him again - he was the rudest doctor Mike and I have ever

encountered - and we've encountered a few, and I'd rather get my update from

the janitor than this guy.....

so, how many of you are on lipid drugs and how many have been told you are

going to croak by way of a heart attack?
