Guest guest
Hello everyone, Unfortunatly, my frustration has not subsided. Quite the contrary I feel like it's escaladed. We're going back in today for the 4th time this week. We went on Tuesday to fix the modification done on Monday, the ortho pulled the cheekbone piece out so it wasn't pressing so hard on her cheekbone/sideburn area. I thought he had pulled it out too far because it looked like it was hardly touching but he assured me that it was ok because that is the side of her face that needs to fill out anyway. He also shaved some of the extra piece of foam out of the back part which helped with her angry eye problem. Got home with the band on took it off of her to check her out she had a pretty good sized red spot on the back of her head which took several hours to fade away. So we went in the next day, Wednesday, this time my dh came with us. We were there for 2 hours. He would put the band on her head, take it off and look at her head then go make a modification. Then we would wait a little bit put it back on for a little bit then take it off look again make more modifications, etc... we went home after a few modifications and waiting till the next day to try it on her (Thursday). Put it on her Thur for about an hour and took it off and there was a pink spot in the same area which again took a couple hours to go away. I've emailed Hicks with pics and permission to speak to our ortho but he's out of the office until Tuesday next week, just my luck. I called the ortho yesterday and actually spoke to him and told him how frustrated I am with this whole thing. I told him at this point we feel like we need a new band because so many modifications have been made to it, we've deviated from the original pretty far. He disagreed and told me that it would be up to him if we did a new band and that he doesn't feel it's necessary and that that is rare to do. He said that he hasn't done that many modification and they have been minor, I reminded him that we've been there 3 times so far this week. I told him that I've been talking to people on this board and that we feel like we're at his mercy and I told him " no offense, that sucks " . We only have what people tell us is right. Anyhow, we're going in again this morning at 11:00 to talk more about everything and he said that he was going to buff that back part more to make it so she doesn't get a red/pink spot. The buffed part in the back feels funny to me too, like it's a fairly good sized dip in the inside of the band. If ultimatly the shape of the inside of the band is supposed to end up being the shape of her head, I don't want her to have a fairly good sized bump from the fairly good sized dip in the inside of the band. ARGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG! I havn't been able to sleep well at all, my nerves are shot, I feel like the stress from this is affecting my relationship with my dh (I havn't been very affectionate). Geez I just pray that today goes well. Wish me luck everyone. Camerin Lorelei (STARband 1/5/06)

Guest guest
Camerin,I'm waving a RED flag here! This sounds like a concerning situation. Nothing gets added to DOC Bands except moleskin for sensitive skin. Perhaps some other STARbands will help you. Check out "Getting a Good Fit" in the files section. How many bands has your ortho done? I assume you've checked out his references. It sounds as if your daughter's band has really been modified. It probably is quite a different fit from the original scan or mold of her head. She probably does need a new band (maybe ortho too). She's lost a chunk of correction time with the ill fitting band too.If you don't find resolution to your issues, consider filing a complaint with the FDA. Click here. The product code for bands is MVA. Also follow up with an email to your US Representative. This is a very important part because they can be essential to getting things worked out! Click here to email your Rep. You can also ask for a Congressional investigation into why the FDA didn't conduct clinical trials on all the bands. Good luck. I hope everything works out for you. It is a shame that this stuff continues to happen especially with FDA regulated products.Mom to Dane (4 yo) and Cecelia (12 mo) DOC Grads

Guest guest
Camerin, How did your 4th visit go??? I hope it went well or she was rescanned/casted for a new band. It's a tricky science and I wish orthos didn't take it so personal. Of course I guess if they botch it then they have to pay for the new one - yikes. I think you are doing a great job making your concerns known in a polite and professional manner. I hope the ortho treats you with the same respect. na, 2 1/2 yrs, DOC Grad, Tort Resolved Kiersten, 7 1/2 months, DOC 1/10/06, Tort www.thefilyaws.com --- In Plagiocephaly , " camerin21 " <camerin21@y...> wrote: > > Hello everyone, > Unfortunatly, my frustration has not subsided.
