Guest guest
Actually it is reversible however he stresses 100% that HE WILL NOT reverse it. He feels the risks are too much to go back the other way. That said you should be prepared to look at this as a life long decision and not something you can " try out " and see if you like it .. Lyssa My meeting with Dr. Thayer My meeting with Dr. Thayer went well today, and he answered all my questions except for a few that he told me he'd rather wait until I got closer to the surgery to answer. I trust that there is a good reason for that, although it does make me say hmmmm. One thing I was really, really surprised to learn is that this operation is NOT reversible! All the information I have gathered told me it was, but Dr. Thayer said absolutely not. I always thought if major medical problems started happening years after the surgery that it could be reserved, but nope. Well, I can't say I'm not making a very informed decision here! Guest guest
Peg, It's my understanding this surgery is reversible, but Dr's don't like to for obvious reasons. My Dr. (Randall), just told us of a revision he had to do, as the person was continuing to lose too much weight, due to some complications (VERY RARE). Personally, I would never want the revision, even if I was told I must...I chose this as my lifetime commitment, and if by chance (god forbid), my life was lessoned by losing too much weight, at least I enjoyed every moment of the time while losing! They were mainly about what to expect during the surgery and right before/after it. Like, how long will my scar be, how do I learn to do deep breathing and coughing exercises, what can/can't I do the first days immediately after the surgery. Probably some of the those answers are dependent upon how the surgery goes, do they take my gall bladder, etc. No biggie -- I just like to know *everything* ahead of time <g>. I was so happy that Dr. Thayer let me have all the time I needed to talk with me. I saw a doctor about my bad knee a few months ago and he treated me like a " thing, " like he was disgusted having to do a consultation with a fat person who's knee is screwed up because of her fat. Dr. Thayer on the other hand treated me like someone with worth and made me walk out of there feeling great. No wonder everyone likes him! -Peg
