Guest guest
Hi I am new to this group. At the two month check up my son's Pedatrician was suspicious that he might be having Torticollis. So she sent us for an XRay and to a Pediatric Neuro Surgeon who suggestd us to perform some exercises on the baby for about a month and come back and it should take care by itself. He also told that my son has plagio. So we did the exercises daily and went to him after a month. He told that there is lot of improvement in Tort but since we were very concerned about baby's head shape, he told us to go to cranial therapies(DOC band) in Toluca,California(South). He gave us prescription and Letter of medical necessity. I called them up and they told that they cannot give an appointment without insurance authorization. Our's is Blue cross HMO 100%. So we called up the Ped and they worked on it.But Blue cross did not give the authorization for DOC band as it costs more than the max limit 2000 for DME(Durable medical Equipment) we have on the plan.Instead they gave authorization for Hanger Orthotestics in Torrance,California(South) .We have the appointment on wednesday and has to see how it goes. My son is 4 months old tomorrow. I have lot of concerns on what to chose. Is it DOC band or Hanger. Which is best for him. I know a lot of people in this forum have gone through this. Please suggest me what is a good choice. If i go with Hanger will my baby be allright. Please suggest. Are there anybody having bad experiences using Hanger , please let me know ASAP. Thanks Anil Son (09/29/2005) : 4 months old tomorow __________________________________________________

Guest guest
Anil,I didn't see the Torrance location in our database. You can click here to check it out. If you go with Hanger you will need to thoroughly interview the orthotist. Many parents here have been pleased with the results their children have gotten from Hanger, but unofrtunately others have not been. If the ortho isn't experienced with bands the head can actually be made worse. So, it's imperative to make sure the ortho knows what he's doing. If he does you can also have a favorable outcome. My son got his band at 5 months and 4 days. He was severe and his progress was unbelievable! We were very happy we banded him at a younger age. I bet you will be too!Mom to Dane (4 yo) and Cecelia (13 mo) DOC Grads>> Hi> > I am new to this group. Guest guest
Hello! I wanted to respond to your post and let you know that my Daughter wore a Hanger Cranial Band for 11 weeks and got great correction! (you can see her pics under the before and afters/Hanger Band under V if you would like to look). As far as which is better... Hanger vs. Doc... well, both bands work on the same priciples... they have holding points and hold growth in the more prominent ( " bulging " areas) while allowing for growth in the flat areas (essentially redirecting the growth of the head in order to make it into a more " normal " shape). The main difference between Hanger and Cranial Tech (CT)is the fact that CT ONLY does cranial bands (no other Orthotics) and their therapists are all specially trained for that. With Hanger, they do other Orthotics and not all of the Orthotists are as well trained and/or experienced with tha Hanger Band. Basically, with Hanger you NEED to make sure that the Orthotist that will be treating your baby is experienced with the band and very knowledgable. There have been some bad experiences with Hanger, when the Orthotist was not experienced enough. However, if the Ortho has a lot of experience, you will be able to get just as good results through Hanger as you would through Cranial Tech. My best advice would be to go to a consult with Hanger and see how you feel about the Orthotist (experience, knowledge, etc). If you don't feel comfortable, then go with the DOC and you can always appeal the denial. Use your instincts. You can email me at ronandjenvelez@... if you would like any info on Hanger or their band. Guest guest
Hi Anil, My daughter got her DOC band at Cranial Therapies in Toluca Lake at 5 months. It is a GREAT place with a very experienced orthotist. I highly recommend it. It's only been 3 weeks and we already see good improvement. The experience of the orthotist is very important and I think CT is the best place to go in LA. Guest guest
Anil, My son has BCBS PPO. When we first went to CT in Toluka Lake (I'm not spelling that right), we were told that CT was out of network and they would only cover 70% of what was Reasonable and Customary (~%1500), after the deductible, they would only cover $700. We called my husband's employer and they asked BCBS to re-process the claim. They ended up covering CT as in network and paid 90%. Talk to Blue Cross again, let them know that other members have had CT covered as in-network. It might not make a difference, but I think insurance companies are counting on people not pushing back. Will they at least cover the $2000 max that they are referencing and are you able to pay the balance yourself? CT will give you a 10% discount if you pay the whole thing when you pick up the band. You can also set up a payment schedule. Good luck, Amy Posner Mom to Ben, DOC grad 11/16 --- In Plagiocephaly , Anil Kumar <anil_inbox@y...> wrote: > > Hi I called them up and they told that they cannot give an appointment without insurance authorization. Our's is Blue cross HMO 100%.
