Curious - Hashi's and pregnancy

Went for my regular post cancer follow-up ultrasound of my thyroid today

(all's well). Had a long conversation with the sonographer - he said they

have three women working in the centre who all have had nodules and Hashi's.

Two of them developed the Hashi's AFTER pregnancy. The third girl had her

nodules regularly monitored, continually had Hashi's *except* during her

three pregnancies - during pregnancy her thyroid function and appearance on

ultrasound *returned to normal*, but went Hashi's again after pregnancy.

He also said that as sonographers they *rarely* see a thyroid gland

*without* a nodule of some kind (unidentifable of course, until at least

FNA) - the dilemma for them is if they're sonographing something unrelated,

say a carotid artery for instance, do they report the thyroid nodule they

notice incidentally or not? Could open up a whole can of worms, sleeping

dogs and all that stuff.

Just found that interesting and needed to share!
