Hi Pam B,

I started doing yoga via video's last year and I can't imagine my life

without it now. I would love to take a class but I live in the

boondocks...could you imagine hillbilly yoga?? :-) LOL

I have several of Rodney Yee's tapes and they are excellent. Started with

the AM/PM tape set.

So glad to hear that you liked it and benefitted from your first class!!

Hi Pam B,

I'm so glad to hear the yoga helped you so much and after one class! I know

about 18 months ago there was quite a discussion on yoga and Tai Chi <I

think> so if you typr yoga into the search engine for the archives you can

read more on it too, if you want.

Keep feeling better!

ohhhh I can agree with you on Yoga, I began last fall and love it. On Yoga

nights I sleep very well and wake up very well rested. The best thing is that

you can work at your own pace, as your body limbers, the more you can

do...<smile>

Pam,

After I went on PTU and got my heart calmed down a bit, I began Yoga

as well. I SWEAR by it. I think for a hyper person trying to achieve

balance and ultimately remission, there is nothing better. Also I

managed to drop 10 pounds even while on ATD's and euthyroid..and I

attribute that to Yoga.

I think it's important to maintain some physical regime, and all the

kickboxing and stuff I used to do wasn't going to work. I am slowly

adding back in some more cardio stuff now, but for over a year, all I

did was Yoga.

Glad to hear it's making you feel better.

Congratulations! Yoga is very healing. I'm glad you enjoyed your class! I

can't find a good class in my area that works with my schedule, so I've got

two Yoga Journal videos that are great - Yoga for Beginners, and Yoga for

Meditation. They're both more challenging than the class I took at the

YMCA! So, I highly recommend these videos for at home Yoga.

oh I miss my kickboxing too! But I know it will be awhile before can get

back into that. I'm a bit sore today, so it almost feels like I was doing

kickboxing. I am so happy to be doing more exercise than walking up and down

the stairs with a 26 lb baby. Can't wait till next Monday's class.

I believe that , I think I pushed it a little too far last night, as

the day goes on, I'm starting to get really sore! Unfortunately, even if my

body wants to sleep well, my son won't allow it... he still wakes up a

couple times a night. I only DREAM of a good nights sleep!

LOL! When my doc told me to do some weight bearing exercise for

osteoporosis, I asked him " Doesn't carrying around a 30 lbs. kid count as

Michele: Head to the pool - don't torture yourself. I had stop all

of my other activities for about the last 12 weeks prior to surgery.

I managed to spin on the bike some days, but tried to get to the pool

at least 4-5 times a week (until that got too painful too - about the

last 2 weeks I think (how very soon we forget)). Just keep yourself

as strong as you can - but there is no need to suffer too much. If

your surgery date is soon you will recover quickly anyway.

Good luck

blocks are not enough for lunges on the left side. Side angle poses

with bended knee are impossible on left side, right side still goes

for it. Plough position, given time, gets right leg to the floor,

left leg is getting harder and harder to get within 6 inches of the

floor - though an occasional touch down is possible. Forget pigeon

pose. I try to go to the gym a little and do 10 machines, two sets,

low weights, 5 hip machines, of sorts - ad, ab, hip flexion, knee

extention. I do those theraband stretches in four positions for my

hip and try to " distract " the hip with a belt, while forcing internal

rotation with opposite leg cross-over, and lunges. Everything is a

struggle, I am not holding my own and I feel like Sisyphus. Surgery

date is still unclear. Do I continue torturing myself 4+ days a week?

Is it really holding anything at bay? Do I force myself into a pool?

Would that be any easier? I can still arise from a seated position

quickly by puting all my weight on the right leg, but forget starting

to ambulate too quickly. My goals are to walk and walk and walk, be

pain free ride a bike again, and do yoga like I have for 20 years.

How to get from here to there. Advice? Thanks.

Thanks for writing back. So if I understand you correctly, you had to stop all

activities for about the last 12 weeks pre-op (except for spinning? that's

impressive - I had to give up all biking last summer...), how quick was your

recovery? What were you able to to after 6 weeks? or 8 weeks? and 12? and

now at about 5 months?

Okay, I'm on spring break this week and I will get into a bathing suit - yikes -

and take the plunge. Thanks for the inspiration...

Michele: mailed you off list with details - have posted them here

many times and wonder if I do it too often!! Suffice it to say that

the spinning was not impressive - no resistance, literally just

spinning the wheels on the bike at the gym. Now we can do everything!
