christine hacon from UK mother

Hi all,My mother had a operation yesterday at 3pm. drained fluid out of stomach only under for half hour.surgeon wanted to see my father this morning Thursday at 11am with my daughter and my niece. rang me to say the surgeon looked sad. and said they done a biospy and won't get results until Monday or Tuesday. The cancer is in her stomach lining and bowel. They need to find out what type of cancer to see if she can have radiotherapy. surgeon can't do any more the cancer too far advanced.Mum just want's to go home. they are getting her palative care to make her comfortable and pain free.Mum and dad are ok about it they are relieved to find out what is causing the pain.Thank's everyone for your thoughts,

Sad news ... but I can understand their feeling of relief in finally knowing what is going on... Knowing might reduce her stress and make things better... Won't make it go away... but it's still a relief... My thoughts are with you all...

Sorry to here about your mother. A girlfriend of mine just went

through this in December with her father. One thing that helped pain

wise is the first few ties he went to the hospital to get the

stomach drained, then they decided to put a shunt in so the build up

of fluid could automatically drain from the stomach.

This did not help with his prognosis, he had been fighting

Pancreatic, liver cancer that had spread to the bone marrow and then

to the stomach. What it did though was make him comfortable. When he

needed the stomach drained he could not eat and was on some really

strong pain killers that did not touch the pain but made him droughy

and incoherent. When the stomach was drained he could eat and did

not need the pain killers..you could have a conversation with him,

which is what the family needed in order to spend time with him and

being able to eat kept his energy levels up.

I know tihs is a difficult thing not only on your mom but on the

whole family and my heart goes out to you. A stunt although

requiring proper cleaning and care may make mom more comfortable.
