Guest guest
> holy shit sissi! can you provide me with more info on this - like where to get one, how much they cost etc.?? rowan is a leap frog learner too - maybe this could be of use to him!! This is where I found it: http://www.superduperinc.com This is my favorite learning resource site in the whole world. They have some really amazing products for all disabilities and tons of stuff specific to autism. Here's the link for the audio card reader: http://www.superduperinc.com/D-E_Pages/eq40_55.htm It is pretty expensive, but like I said, Easter Seals bought Boone's. They also bought his Boardmaker program, which was a lot more expensive. At the time I thought Boardmaker was the greatest thing in the world -- and is pretty awesome. The best part is, I can use Boardmaker to make pictures for the blank audio cards because Boone is a visual learner. Boone adores the Super Duper catalog. He reads and rereads it all the time. Sissi who ought to become a Super Duper sales rep...

Guest guest
> So - what DOES Boone have to say today???? We've started out simple with the prerecorded picture/word cards. Things like " I like apples " for the apple card and " I use an umbrella when it rains " for the umbrella card. After that we moved on to recording our own on the blank cards. " My name is Boone Garvey " and " What is your name? " --Actually he said " My name is Boone Garvey period, " and " What is your name question mark " so I started leaving off the punctuation because it was distracting to him. Anyway, we made cards for everybody in the family and everybody recorded their own cards -- like Dillon said, " My brother is named Dillon. " The entire family got into making up sentences and we all recorded some. There are two tracks on each card. One is a teacher track and one is for Boone to record himself. He has already learned to record himself too. It's so cool. We let Boone make a few cards by himself. He made all number cards and one 1-800 number card, naturally. We've had a blast doing this today. Seeing pictures and reading and hearing the words makes all the difference in the world for him. Guest guest
Sissi, that is great. I would also like some more info on it. We have been working with a SP for over 2 months on some kind of a communcation device for . I could bring this up to them and see what they say. Lori -- audio card reader Boone's audio card reader came today. He absolutely loves it. A little back ground -- this is the device June Francis was using with her son in the film " Refrigerator Mothers. " When I saw it I knew it would work for Boone since he memorized all the capitols and currency of the countries by playing with his Leap Frog Explorer globe. (he already knew the capitols of the states before he got the globe. It's electronic, so naturally it's a big hit with Boone. Anyway, I asked June about the audio card reader and she recommended it whole-heartedly. This thing is so cool. We have been making up sentences all day and he's actually said about 30-40 sentences after hearing them. This is the first time we've ever used it and he is speaking sentences. Boone is speaking in sentences! He's not using sentences independently but I know it's just a matter of time now. He is absolutely thrilled. This is THE MOST AMAZING thing that's ever happened to us. And YES, he knows what the sentences mean because we're starting with topics he already knows. Our local Easter Seals agreed to buy it for him and I am going to write a very enthusiastic thank you to them. Sissi
