Guest guest
I'm so glad to see this post - I asked if GSE works on yeast and nobody answered. Still an issue right now after the fruit overload and i'm beside myself. Robbie Re: GRAPEFRUIT not Grape...OofO " I can never remember if it is Grape or Grapefruit that I need to buy for yeast!!! " Coral, It is grapeFRUIT seed extract. But keep in mind, it is NOT just an antifungal. It is also antimicrobial (bacteria), antiviral and antiparasitical. Taking GSE will completely irradicate pretty much all the little critters inhabiting the GI tract INCLUDING the GOOD ones. Be sure to take probiotics and/or give yogurt, especially after you stop the GSE treatment so that you can replenish the GI tract with GOOD bacteria. Also, GSE is not a long term treatment. Since it kills practically everything, it should not be used daily or long term. Guest guest
Thank you... his stools are mushy again and light colored. Being 6 months in to the diet, I don't know if the yeast he's dealing with is easy or hard to kill off - would oil of oregano or GSE be better? I know I won't be able to get him to drink carrot juice and garlic - we don't have a juicer either. Robbie Re: GRAPEFRUIT not Grape...OofO Hi Robbie, GSE does work on some yeast. Guest guest
Thanks, Sheila. I'm trying to keep fruit and honey to minimum for sure. Today was more solid, though he did go 3x this am - I hope that was a fluke. We just had company this past weekend and there was a lot of food out. I think he went nuts on the grapes, which may be why he's not been improving - he starts to get better then overloads on fruit again, but at least now I can strictly monitor what he eats. It's sad because fruit never really bothered him before, but obviously there is a limit and he went past it. This is what I'm trying to do for menu for him.. breakfast - cheese omelet with a little cheese on the side lunch - the Applegate farms hotdogs, ripe banana, cheese dinner - meat of some sort with cooked veggies he drinks watered down grape juice during the day - and water at night Does this sound ok? We did yogurt for a few days, but that didn't seem to settle well. They absolutely love that yogurt and it's hard to give just a couple of bites... they'd eat it all in one sitting if I let them. They probably get 1/2-1 cup each per day. But both of them seem to have a hard time with it, though after we finish a batch, things improve quickly, like it did it's job. That prolly sounds strange. Robbie Re: GRAPEFRUIT not Grape...OofO Hi Robbie, Both can be used for yeast, rotating every few days so that yeast can't adapt. I am not sure about the OoO but GSE is pretty strong tasting. To use garlic you may be able to crush garlic allow it to sit in water for a few minutes and then drain the crushed garlic and drink the water - it may not be as effective as the carrot juice & garlic but garlic is a pretty strong antimicrobial on its own. Some form of probiotic is very important also. Make sure that the antifungal/antimicrobials (OoO, GSE) and the probiotics are spaced at least two hours apart. Have you reduced fruit and honey as per Elaine's recommendations? Sheila > Thank you... his stools are mushy again and light colored. Guest guest
Is there a reason why Elaine doesn't like the applegate hotdogs? I mean something regarding the ingredients or the processing practices, or is it that she isn't familiar enough with them to recommend them? I limit the hot dogs, but I use them for his school lunches - we rarely have leftovers. When we are home, I cook for him... I am certainly willing to pull them if they could be a problem, but it's the only easy thing we can get and he absolutely loves them. I think he went nuts on the grapes, which may be why he's not been improving The grapes can be pretty hard on a compromised gut. There's an awful lot of pectin (in the skin) and if he isn't able to digest it all it will end up as food the " bad bugs " . When wanted grapes early on in the diet I would peel them for him. It took me so long to peel one grape that he usually changed his mind after two or three and would ask for something a little easier on the finger tips - he starts to get better then overloads on fruit again, but at least now I can strictly monitor what he eats. > > It's sad because fruit never really bothered him before, but obviously there is a limit and he went past it. If the fruit is cooked ot probably wouldn't be as bad but with all the symptoms you've described recently (light colored stool, itchy bottom etc.) it sounds like yeast is a predominant problem. So, you absolutely want to avoid raw fruit *especially apple skins and grape skins* and dried fruit. Even with cooked fruit you may want to keep it reduced until you get the yeast under control. > This is what I'm trying to do for menu for him.. > > breakfast - cheese omelet with a little cheese on the side > lunch - the Applegate farms hotdogs, ripe banana, cheese > dinner - meat of some sort with cooked veggies > he drinks watered down grape juice during the day - and water at night That looks okay, although Elaine doesn't like the applegate hot dogs. > Does this sound ok? We did yogurt for a few days, but that didn't seem to settle well. If something has happened that upsets my system I sometimes have to stop the yogurt for a day or so. After that it is usually okay. I think with the UC it gets overwhelmed but I don't really know.
