Guest guest
There were two. First, after a long 250 mile trip in a low slung sports car I had back ache getting out of the car. Secondly, when trying to run up an escalator I encountered a sharp pain in the hip. Both these were in the year 2000. I was operated on in Feb 2002. Guest guest
My initial signs were when stuff I could do previously started to be painful or awkward. In my case skiing...my turning on my bad side became difficult as my hip wouldn't turn like like in the old days. So, probably in addition to the pain and discomfort, something you could do prior becomes difficult for no apparent reason. - In surfacehippy , " Isobel Hotten " <isobel.hotten@y...> wrote: > What was your first sign of Arthritis in the hip? Guest guest
I have always had aching legs, but in 1999 every joint in my body was literally screaming, my gp at the time (who incidently told me i was making it up) eventually sent me to a rheumatologist who x-rayed my legs (most painful of all) and diagnosed premature osteoarthritis in both my Hips. This fine Lady reccommeded that I should see an OS and suggested resurfacing or waiting as long as possible for THR. she said my hips looked like those associated with someone in their 70's. Now I can wait no longer so hence my current wait now for resurfacing, I am 35 now. jane - uk > What was your first sign of Arthritis in the hip? Guest guest
1. An ache so deep in the hip socket, I couldn't identify exactly where it was coming from. 2. When I would go for a ball on the tennis court, my hip would " give " , or buckle occasionally. The very first signs were about 10 years before surgery. > What was your first sign of Arthritis in the hip? Guest guest
I started getting very bad range of motion and some pain in the hip in my early twentys. I was diagnosed by a chiropractor 12 years ago in my early thirtys. I was told by an OS to come back in 20 years for a THR and that there was nothing else I could do. I started taking glucosomine sulphate five years ago and I'm still walking. I guess mine has just been really slow to progress. I am very thin so maybe that helped. I am 44 and was planning on waiting at least 10 more years for a THR. Now that I found out about resurfacing I want to get it done before it is too late. Guest guest
What was your first sign of Arthritis in the hip? ______ Hi Isobel~ I believe the first time I noticed something with the hip was approx. 13 yrs ago. I was walking down the 3 steps off my back deck and my hip stuck for maybe a fraction of a second. Pain didn't come for many years later. Ist time I saw a dr. about it was in 1997. That was when I started my love/hate relationship with otc ibuprophen via instructions from my GP. Excercising bearing no weight on hip was his recommendation. (biking/swimming) Found out I had AVN Sept 2001 due to unknown causes.
Guest guest
Mine was pretty odd. About 6 years ago I was doing some floor exercises. Just some gentle stretches. I drew my right knee to my forehead....fine. I drew my left knee to my forehead and instead of meeting it neatly, it veered off to the left. How odd! It did not hurt. Next time I went to my GP, I told him, he X-Rayed it and showed me that I had OA. Since then I have exercised, walked, taken the usual supplements and hoped. It stayed alright for 6 years. Then in August '02, I woke up and it had all gotten so much worse. Now it is pretty darn bad. I am on pain meds and waiting for my surgery on March 27th with Dr. Mont. Hurry up March! Guest guest
My first sign was not pain. I notice something when I was working out with free weights and was doing my squats. When I reach near the bottom, my rear end would move to one side. I had no idea what or why this was happening, so I kept on working out. The second sign was my golf swing went to crap, or at least I like to blame the hip for that one:) Michigander Mike Future Hipster 4/1/03 > What was your first sign of Arthritis in the hip? Guest guest
At least 15 years ago I started feeling a pain down the back of my leg and in what felt like the inner muscle of my hip. I go chiropractic care from time to time at that point, and thought I could trace it to my 2nd daughter's birth (she's almost 22). In 1997 I found that my mobility was also affected, and I went to see a sports physician who said I had " sprain and strain syndrome " . I took the same x-rays to a rheumatologist a few months later. He said I had stage 3 out of 10 osteoarthritis. I started taking glucosamine, chondroitin, msm, and even tried cmo. Nothing reversed it, tho it could have slowed it down and helped me cope for all I know. Stretching, chiropractic, massage, & PT and at the end crutches and vicodin have all helped me cope. Last year it was Dr. Schmalzreid who said I had mild dysplasia, prevalent in 1st -born females, and it wasn't the birth at all!. My left side does not seem similarly affected, but if I ever do have a problem I know what to do! Mine really has been a gradual progression..... Guest guest
Six years ago, after a 2 and 1/2 mile walk on a somewhat muddy road, I felt a distinct pull in my hip. Six months after that, I had my first xray - and it's been down hill from there, despite supplements, excercise, yoga, PT, Vioxx...Now I'm figuring out what to do when and where - with the help of this incredible group. Guest guest
I remember having what I'd call a " hitch in my gitup " - I'd be walking alond and all of a sudden it felt like there was a pebble in my hip joint - in hindsight, it was probably pieces of cartilage giving way??? It would happen every few months or so - a day of rest made it stop. Again, hindsight says it came on after I lifted something heavy. This occurred for several years, with more frequency; until it finally didn't go away with rest - the fall of 2001. Deb 49 y/o C+ 5-2-02 > Hi Isobel > I remember 2 problems about the same time > 1.
