Raju: While you are trying to find out what the problem is, I offer my

chiropractor's suggestion to ease the pain: put warm, MOIST towel on the

area for a minimum of 10 minutes, but no longer than 20 minutes every hour.

A moist heating pad is ideal. It will help ease the pain when you need it

most.

I have a nerve that once was severely pinched and it only acts up every once

in a while now - usually when stressed or I slept out of line (i.e. fell

asleep on the couch without my trusty chiropractic pillow!). Hope you get to

the bottom of this soon.

Hi Raju, That sounds very much like the pain I get from rheumatoid

arthritis affecting the c1/c2 joint at the top of the spine. I have been

able to get a lot of relief from it with a chiropractic-type manipulation my

doctor does on it. Other suggestions he gave were to spend some time

several times a day lying flat on a firm surface with a rolled towel under

the neck, and to wear a cervical collar when it is causing headaches. Do

you get headaches from it? Have you ever had your neck x-rayed? Do you have

a diagnosis of some type of arthritis also?

I would talk to the doctor about it as soon as you have an opportunity.

If you have severe arthritis in this area, it can have neurological

complications. Do you have any numbness or tingling in the area or down the

neck or arms? Ever experience dizziness or any unusual sensations if you

tilt your head backward? Let me know if any of this applies to you, and I

can direct you to some info on it. Liz G.

Der Raju, Way back when - it does seem that way now - BEFORE I was

diagnosed with my SD, I woke up one morning thinking I had what is known as

a crick in my neck. I had pain a the base of my skull, down into my neck

and just could not turn my head. It slowly went down into my shoulders and

I believe the only thing that really helped it was a tape called

Callanetics which is very inexpensive at most video places. I used that

tape for years to keep me from freezing up all over prior to discovering

yoga. Then I incorporated the two. I would have go venture a guess that

this is a SD flare for you. I know you are going to have to be careful

not to injure yourself but at the same time, you don't want to allow it to

completely freeze up. Like I said, I am not a professional and can only

relate my own experience to you.

The other thing it might be would the the herxheimer affect in the

same area as the flare I described above. One of my friends here at this

site with SD, Joyce, who is yet a lurker in this group, has so far escaped

the grand herxheimer but her symptoms are the neck discomfort. I hope this

is of help to you. I know for you that the fear is such a factor. Even for

us who have been here awhile and go through something different is a call

to panic. Are you doing the clindamycine iv's? I do hope you are. Don't

stay away, Ragu. You are now an antegral part of this force of people of

whom without I would be lost. I believe you will find they will always be

here for you. Love,

Thanks for the response . I changed pillows at

home and am wondering if that might have caused this

pain. Shall try the old ones and see if it helps. If

reverting back to my old pillows doesn't help then i

will have to associate this with sd again.

Don't know if this is a herx reaction though ??

I am not doing the ivs as i dont know of a doctor in

bay area who will do it for me ?

Thanks,

Raju

If you ask here, there is a list of doctors who support the ap traetment

and I would recommend you really check that list out and try to locate one

who will do the iv's for you " whenever. " It might be that you have to

travel occasionally to one but I would not throw out that possibility in

the event that you need it. Let's hope that this is a Pillow Problem and

that you won't need anything else but it does not hurt to be prepared for

anything ever, does it? Warm regards,
