Guest guest
I have a question! Does the chemo do funny things to your periods? I have been having them every three weeks for the last few years and very heavy too- I know that I have fibroids. Well, now I have had some heavy bleeding in between periods. Should I call the nurse about it? Also, can chemo affect or shrink the fibroids? Hope so! Thanks for any info!
Guest guest
Hi , Depending on what chemo you have, you can go into 'chemopause'. I had periods for my first 2 chemos, then heavy bleeding inbetween, then my periods stopped. I don't know if fibroids can be affected, though I have them and had heavy periods. When in doubt - call your nurse! They are very knowledgeable. -
Guest guest
I was 44 when I had my chemo and still get periods. After 2 chemos my periods stopped for 14 yrs and then I started spotting. Just on occasion. After testing the gyn and I decided to go with a total hysterectomy. That was 2 yrs ago. I was 58 so had no intentions of having any more children. I woulc check with your onc just to be sure. I will keep you in my prayers. Guest guest
I've never answered a question, here it goes: I've always had horrible periods with heavy bleeding, (no fibroids though); I noticed during my second chemo treatment, my period was lighter, and has been ever since. I don't know how it's been with the other women, but with me, it's been light. Warmly, Pattie Re: periods I have a question! Does the chemo do funny things to your periods? Guest guest
Pattie, It does depend on which drugs you're getting, and you. I was told with my chemo (adriamycin, cytoxan), I would most likely have chemopause. Don't know which drug (or both) was responsible. - Pattie Nichols-Kays wrote on 4/13/2006, 5:47 PM: Hmmm, is it all chemotherapy or just a certain chemo? I thought the doctor told me it depended on which medication the person was put on, (same went for hair loss). I didn't loose my hair, the first time around, but this time, my hair is thinning a lot. I don't know, but just thought that's what the doctor told me. I've never quit my periods, and have had them since August 21st of last year, (turned 40 and began my chemo treatment three days after my double lumpectomy). Guest guest
, my last period was last May 17, which was the start of 2nd AC Chemo, I guess I have gone into what they call Chemopause. I just hope it stays that way. I will be 50 in July. I have a question! Does the chemo do funny things to your periods? Guest guest
Yes, I started my chemo in January. I had a period that month and again in Feb. but none since. I am 48. I hope they don't come back after my last chemo, which by the way is this Thursday!!! I am so looking forward to being a chemo graduate! Guest guest
Carol - Mine stopped 2 months into A/C chemo, through Taxol, radiation...almost (1) year to the day, it returned, even on tamoxifen. They just looked at my estrogen levels last month to see where I "stand" with menopause...NOWHERE in sight!!! He said the normal level for menopausal women is 32; I was 300. I never had a hot flash though before chemo, so many was years down the road for me. I've just missed my third period, last one being January 06...must be the tamoxifen. Best, Hope you got through all that weather last nite and day before unscathed!!
